the warm air from your tent/cabinet needs to be extracted out of the room. if not, its going to be like cooling a room with a heater on.

I know that this is posted in "newbie central", but all the "just leave the door open" stuff is bad advice. What are you guys doing about odor control. Even if you live somewhere legal, it's not a good idea to broadcast the fact that you grow. A proper fan and filter will help guard against cops and robbers alike.
Also, plants need fresh, co2-rich air in order to thrive. If you aren't constantly replenishing the air, your plants will not yield as well as they could. Constantly replenishing the air also helps prevent many common issues that can arise, like mold caused by increased humidity during lights off, and so on.
Airflow is the key to a good grow. Money spent on proper ventilation is money well spent, and overkill is always a good idea, for future proofing and better control of your environment.

carbon filter with a hole drilled in the roof/wall/floor or ducting ran to the window. the heat cant be put back into the room it has to be put out of the room its easy to patch holes..

i didn't think about that well i know the plant don't smell till i think flowering stage so i should be fine for now but about the air flow don't have a clue what to do i'm just tring to get everything straight before buying everything. better save then sorry right. well what do you all think is the best idea for a closet grow air flow? i have a small fan and a large fan i was going to use and i was going to get one of those vents that you put on your dryer to blow air outside and do something with that

I'm a noob closet grower and this is how mine is, 6''inline fan, one 20''fan for plants, 1000w light, thats it.I have always ran my lights at night to lower temps.Right now my temp stays at 80 at plant canopy, 75 in room.
I also didn't want to cut holes in my closet.

I just dump my air outside throw my window, and fresh air come's right in.

you would get much more efficient air flow if that was in the roof/wall/floor less curves and ducting is faster more efficient air flow. you dont need to use the filter from start, but the filter reduces airflow so to know your actual temps you need to. if you keep it locked, buy a inline fan 4-6 inch i suggest 6 as i got 4 and it isnt enough and attach the filter whenever needed. thats what i do. i need to grab a 6 inch fan, and a air cooled reflector and hook the filter to the reflector and then hook the other side of the reflector to the fan down into the floor leading outside, the current 4 inch i got now would use up one of the passive intakes i got. you can do it however you want. GOOD LUCK

my air flow is fine, 6'' 450 cfm, no fillter.I just don't want to cut my wall, might be moving my setup later, in a another room some where else??

its very easy, home depot/lowes sells hole saws and it will cut it even.. just keep the circle you cut so you can patch it later on.
edit, and no filter? do you got one to put on when they smell?

These are the two biggest mistakes I've made in my first growbox venture. It's relatively small-- 36x18x44"-- and I thought for sure 1-2 computer fans and a passive intake would do the trick.
I sure was wrong. Because, I think, my choice of Celotex foil-laminated insulation-- genius I had thought, for the price and ease of installation-- had trapped all heat and my first dummy run saw temps hit 100F. I quickly found myself cutting more intake holes and running out to Staples for a 120cm fan to go with the 80cm I had already installed. Together, they have been keeping things at a nice 75-85F range, but summer is coming quickly and my room is above a garage, so it'll start to get toasty. Because I know I will need better circ, I am already looking to upgrade the fans. So the money and time I've wasted dinking around with the computer fans will eventually be for naught.
Odor - I like to make things with shit I have laying around the house... it's the pothead in me. I fashioned a filter using some gutter guard netting and styrofoam packaging cups I found in the garage and wrapped them in carbon filter sheets purchased at Wally's.
Only problem is, it don't do diddly... I have all of two plants in their 3rd week of flowering and my spare bedroom stinks like a teenager's pockets.
I have recourse: there's crawlspace access panel behind my box and I will do what I should have done initially: buy an inline fan and use fresh carbon and vent air from and out to the attic. I had hoped to avoid all of that-- create a stealthy, handsome-looking box that I could move to the basement if we're having company for a weekend. As it is, that company will have to sleep on the couch and I've got to spend a few more bucks than intended... but that's the beauty of learning as you go.

I'm only getting one, so my wife don't have to smell it no more, by are bedroom.
