IDE look for a potting soil with perlite and peatmoss in it and a low or no NPK rating. Stay away from the ones that say feeds plants for xxx months I use these but I'm special. Heads up all soil is organic it what is pit in them to look.out for.

i love using the soil they refer to as soiless mix, sunshine mix and promix. they both come in 3.8 cu ft compressed bags and have a decent ph. they contain virtually no nutrients so it is easy to give the plants what they want. it is wonderful stuff especially after you add some good compost and some guano to it a few weeks prior to planting in it. the roots will grow extremely quick in soil like this compared to hard less airy soils but also needs more support come near harvest from the weight of the plants, i have seen the rip themselves out of the ground with high winds and heavy branches. though unlikely always stake everything up anyhow, broken branches always occur.

Ace harware usually sells promix in small bags. I would suggest looking for a garden center near you.

Get a few bags of vermicompost and mix it with any decent topsoil. You only have to carry a few bags because you can mix 1part per 8 parts topsoil and its super high in nitrogen and other essential nutes. You can always buy a few pounds of redworms and make your own as well.

i wouldn't use topsoil myself. i used to do that when younger and first trying this sport. most topsoil will turn to mud when it is 2'-3' deep after a good rain. plus it compacts real quick and doesn't get enough air to the roots. i am not sure what vermicompost is? is it like vermiculite? if so it would help the topsoil airate but it still would not be the best option. a bag of sunshine mix #1 3.8 cu ft uncompresses out to be quite a bit of soil. if needed you could use a little cheaper soil in it to make it go a bit further. bags around here go for $30 bucks for the 3.8 compressed. i'll admit i have a hook up since greenhouses are in the family but even at full price i would pay for it. adding good compost some eathworm castings if you can afford, and a few dashes of bat guano a few weeks prior to planting and you will have great plants that show their potential.

yes, WeedMan, homedepot does sell Premier shagnum peat moss, got good stuff in there all organic, and if you would like to have container then its kellogs patio plus. and i aint lie that i use ogranic Miralce s gro, white with brown, they re the shit ! and you can pre mix with espoma s line like garden lime (buffer pH) blood meal, bone meal, kelp meal. they re all dry fertilizers. also theres a liquid organic fertilizer is alaska s 5-1-1. theres a many organic stuff in every store unlike hydro store.

Hope you make a good choice and have a sucessful grow soon :D rep for you.

Hey man, i was thinking of bringing some promix to my site this year. I might be able to fit some compost but would rather bring easy to carry ferts like bone, blood meal and guano... my site is an 1h and a half hike in the woods...ill try and fit as much as i can in a big hockey bag that ill be carrying on my back. If the compost makes a really big diffrence, ill do some more runs... anything for my ladies ;)

I was wondering if you could explain what exatcly id have to bring in terms of ferts to add the the pro mix?? And how to mix evreything up in parts... keep in mind that ill only be able to water my plants evrey 2 weeks so water rentention might be an issue.

I leke your anwsers on my other post! thx man!

if water retention is a problem there are a few easy things you can do first and best is applying a good layer of mulch over them. digging good deep holes will help the plants to find water also as going a couple feet down it's nearly always moist. the third thing you can do would be to use water plolymers. if you are not familiar with them they are little polymers that look like crystals, a tablespoon full would suck enough water to fill a decent sized cup. then they slowmy release it back to the soil. a little bit goes a long way. they are not organic and are supposed to be harmless but i only use them for potted plants around the house non-ganja. but many use them for ganja and love them.
i also do some hiking so i know how that is my friend. get a good shovel a stout short handled one with a handle on the end those work best for me. depending on your area you may need an ax for roots. i'm so far in the sticks i cut trees for better light, people may complain about that practice but thinning the trees is a good thing for the rest of them to grow.
anyway the soil, i love to use earthworm castings i use as much as i can afford. they are not cheap but the more the better. they give many micronutrients and lots of beneficial microbes to help the soil and plant fight diseases. in the spring i put mex bat guano and homemade compost in with my soil. the compost like the castings i use as much as i can if i can put 10% compost that is a good thing. the guano i spread a few weeks before planting a small cup (8oz fl volume) every few feet and mix it in the first 4-6 inches of soil.
other than that i usually water them with earth juice grow once every 10 days or so at normal strenght. give them a shot of microblast once or twice while in veg stage. and keep a good eye out for any bug probs or diseases.
as soon as they start to show their sex i stop the nitrogen and switch to bloom juice again i have been using earth juice or foxfarms bloom juice. also mixed with waterings.
over the years i have used everything from the cheapest to very expensive stuff and this seems to work fine. the plants are big and healthy not lacking anything.
i am a big fan of tieing my plants down so they grow almost horizontaly it seems to give them good light and makes the lateral branching almost as big as the tops. doing it like this you must watch them in the fall becouse the stakes used to keep them down are going to be needed to keep them up due to weight. but it also makes the plants outline a little less distinguishable from a distance to other people looking for ganja. not to mention a bit shorter.

when you decide to start your digging get out there as soon as the ground is thawed and dig your holes. this will make it so the vegetation doesn't get stompted down and it will grow good and cover your area. also little plants will grow in your soil you hauled a few small weeds is a good thing to keep the soil from standing out. or else drag some big sticks and let the plants grow in between them almost like a trellis. sounds foolish but works well. and makes them harder to find.
i was going add there is nothing at all wrong with blood, bone, cotton seed meal. they break down slower and if you add them put them in your soil and moisten it a good month in advance. they are cheap good forms of fertilizer people have used for hundreds if not thousands of years. blood and bone meal when fresh will attract animal another reason to put it out early so the animals are used to it by the time you plant they won't bother it any longer.

In terms of security...I dont think poeple will find it lol, its so far away from anything that I think I might of even over done it a little beacause its gonna be a bitch to get there evrey time...

On the flip side, this secure location gives me lots of opportunitys, like having lots of equipment at hand, a place to sleep and maybe even a place to dry them...but im not sure about the last one, it gets cold up here in october, dont wanna take chances with mold and stuff...

How much did that jug of Guano cost ya? If I remember correctly, a small bag cost like 50$, that shit is fricking expensive...a Jug like that will fertilize how many plants?

How many plants can you fit in that elevated bed?

i realy am not sure what i paid for it. we have a green house buisiness so i get things a bit cheaper. that pic is a year or two old and i still have the same bucket half full. it is 20 lbs of mexican guano. if i grow 20-30 plants a season that would probly last me 8 years. a little goes a long way. it doesn't get old either the stuff is probly 100 year old shit as it is. they collect it in bat caves right of the floor as far as i know.
that plot was dug about 2' deep and i think 12" above ground i grow 5 nice plants there. if they cooperate well and the weather holds. i will pull 4-8 lbs of that spot i have done it a few times now at that location.
here are a couple more little areas i have made
as far as drying goes a controlled environment is best. it is tough to dry outside and would take much longer. plants would be far more prone to getting mold also. i would try to find a good indoor location. for sure.
