Mexico as a Commonwealth?

Since their government has been a pain in our ass, and half the country is already here anyways...why not?. It would solve a number of issues.

1. Toppling a corrupt government next door with a racist constitution seems like a better expenditure than wasting it in the Middle East.
2. Once accomplished, the cartels can then be severely hampered.
3. Mexico would then share the same status as Puerto Rico:
The residents of Puerto Rico are United States citizens and they are represented in Congress by a Resident Commissioner with voice but without vote. Residents of Puerto Rico generally do not pay federal income taxes (however, they pay Social Security, Medicare and Unemployment taxes) and cannot vote in Presidential elections.
Puerto Rico has sports sovereignty with its own national olympic team. Puerto Rico also participates in different International Organizations such as the Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLA) (Associate Member).
And if anyone thinks this is not fair, wait until you see the Mexican Constitution.

- Immigrants and foreign visitors are banned from public political discourse.
- Immigrants and foreigners are denied certain basic property rights.
- Immigrants are denied equal employment rights.
- Immigrants and naturalized citizens will never be treated as real Mexican citizens.
- Immigrants and naturalized citizens are not to be trusted in public service.
- Immigrants and naturalized citizens may never become members of the clergy.
- Private citizens may make citizens arrests of lawbreakers (i.e., illegal immigrants) and hand them to the authorities.
- Immigrants may be expelled from Mexico for any reason and without due process.

Thoughts?

You have posted some reasonble things on Riu but this thread is beyond the realm of sanity. Why would Mexico consider such a thing? They do have national pride U know.Their Reconquista stratigy is doing just fine recolonizing the lands we stole from them in the 1840's.They are a homgenous culture, divided mostly by rich and poor. The U.S. on the otherhand is fractured in a hundred different directions.Do we open the borders?Let them vote(80,000,000) people)?Excuse them from income tax?Rebuild their schools, prison system, police, and judiciary?Fight the cartels(They don,t shoot much up here but they will have to shoot if we go down there? How about there 20+% chronicunemployment rate?I"m sure U will happily pony up your share for this.

I know this is complete bullshit. I have a good friend that I grew up with. He's catholic and has dual citizenship in Mexico and the U.S. Why? He builds and repairs organs for the Catholic church, PLUS, he writes compositions (mostly masses) for the church. He is a full member of the clergy. He now lives in Mexico City and has been there for 10 years. As a member of the clergy.

1. Why do you assume the Mexican government would have any say in the matter?, particularly when the idea is to subvert said government by funding opposition.
2. They would have the same voting rights as Puerto Rican citizens residing in Puerto Rico.
3. Every culture is divided by economic class in some form.
4. I never said anything about re-building their infrastructure. But I would certainly support diverting all the wasted $$ going into the Middle-East towards the effort.
5. Fuck the cartels, they won't last anyways.

Here is why, tie the entire thing into industrial hemp production for domestic use and export to China. Mexico has the land and certainly the labor to pull it off with our help.

I hope not... The US govt has fucked up the US so bad. Please do not let them get any bigger. You know that is why Obummer and Himmler Holder are dealing guns to the Cartels down there. To start a reason for a military action to occupy, catalog and create check points down there. So expats can remember why they left the US anyways.

The US like most states and cities in it, USED to be cool. Like a great Keg party that is dwindling down at 1:30am the only thing left is a few sharks with their hats out collecting money for the last beer run of the night. Which the ones who 'pitch-in' will never see any beer. All while the cartoon watchers, with no jobs are holding the hat and appropriate or justify where to spend it.

Ebb and Tide -The real entrepreneurs are headed to the new west... South and Central America, while the new Refugees, like China are buying in the US. "the kings of hiding money from their govt. Est 2.4 Trillion sent offshore in China from 200-2008 per LR.com The US Govt or IRS is looking for 60 Billion to put that figure into perspective. That is the US Govt's A/C bill for the tents in the mid east Police action! LOL Insanity but a funny thought.

YAY.... 130 million more people sucking of the tit of middle class America :finger:
Remember Middle class starts at 11350 a year! LOL then you start to pay taxes from 5% up to 35% But if you are an investor, like our Senators, you will only pay max 15% which is usually beat down to 10%
So if you own a business and work at the business you pay in that 5-35 sliding scale. If you buy that business and someone else works that business you only pay up to 15% tax.

Because corporations are people too....LOL

No, not bigger at all. The US would simply be a conduit closer to home as opposed to Israel.

we have already turned down the chance to annex mexico over 150 years ago. why? it was full of mexicans.

john calhoun said: [W]e have never dreamt of incorporating into our Union any but the Caucasian race—the free white race. To incorporate Mexico, would be the very first instance of the kind, of incorporating an Indian race; for more than half of the Mexicans are Indians, and the other is composed chiefly of mixed tribes. I protest against such a union as that! Ours, sir, is the Government of a white race....
