Australian Animal Cruelty has stopped me wanting to eat meat - COMPLETELY.

I was driving downtown one day and this lady in front of me hit a rabbit, ran over it's hind quarters.
I pulled over to her all screaming and panicking over the poor thing trying to drag itself away with it's broken back so sad...
Any way it was rite across the street from the VFW were I'm a member so when I get out of my car a bunch of the members are standing out side.
I get out and tell the lady don't worry I'll take care of it as I opened my trunk and grabbed a tire iron walked over to it and smashed it's brains,
Man did she get upset, I guess I could had took it to a vet and let him do it.
I've been knocked out and you really don't feel any pain so.....
Was I wrong??
Do you think I'm going to quit eating meat? I'm a ex-hunter now haven't shot any thing in a long time.
You did the right, if not sad, thing if it was really that f"ed up. I've slapped-down a house-brick on mice and rats that've been chomped by my dog though too, that's not at all the same as mass-murdering animals just so fat fucks can have cheap meat, and complain how tough it is all through dinner.

If you and I can put an animal out of its suffering so quickly and easily, shouldn't slaughter-houses - as a BARE minimum - do the same? THey kill things for a living right? So what possible excuse is there for rammin a cattle-prod up a cows arse? .. They were probably asian workers, but that sorta shit - applying simple logic - must happen every single day in MANY abattoirs.

I actually get teared-up whenever I start empathizing with these animals.

I've seen heaps of news lately about Australian cattle (Cows, Pigs AND Lambs) being treated so fucking cruely. The video footage on ABC other day showed this cunt sticking the cattle prod against the cows arseholes AND heads at the same time, lambs that haven't been sedated before having their throat slit, and pigs are being beaten up to 7 times in the head with a solid-iron bar.

I've actually sworn off meat since seeing what these fucking human filth do in the abattoirs. Makes me angry AND SO sad, just remembering it. I couldn't even imagine what those cattle are feeling: Hearing all the other animals screaming, the cold concrete and metal warehouse, the over-crowding, and the FEAR they'd have to feel.

Then, on top of that environment, you got cruel, nutless cowards who get *off* on torturing the animals BEFORE killing them.

It's a fucking sick world, but animals can't even speak for themselves, and I fail to understand - on any level - why *anyone* would want to hurt an animal - for any reason at all.

Maybe it's the warehouse worth of drugs I've taken over the past 20 years, but I swear I can empathize so deeply with these cattle I can almost feel how scared they are. And every time I get to that point a tear drips from my eye, I sniffle, and I have to stop thinking about it.

I never really thought myself that much of an animal lover when I was a kid, maybe it's all the fucked shit I've seen/read/heard since that's changed me.

I haven't eaten any meat at all for 3 weeks, and you know, I don't actually miss it a bit.
um... i didn't grow up on a farm..ok..... let's just leave it at that....

i've been at family outings and we've slaughtered chickens, lambs, goats, cows, ducks, rabbits, and only who knows what else was in some of those stews.... why sedate the animal?? the blood is used to make blood sausage and some other delightful things...

the meat and blood would be contaminated with drugs.....

slitting the throat is about the most humane way to kill an animal.... it's not pretty, some of the animals do cry and scream.... but it's food... it's gotta die somehow and daddy's hungry......

Yeah he does. It's pretty hard to 'shock' people about meat, when most of us (me too) have eaten it for our entire lives, seen the footage of animals being killed. Immature "I love dead animal" comments just don't have any impact I'm afraid :)

I simply think, that in this day and age, with such a surplus of foods, that we should've evolved - as a species - enough to not feel that a meal's not complete without some dead shit on the plate. Look how we've evolved in other ways? Technology's the most obvious, but human beings these days are ALL about "Rights" and "Intelligence", yet everyone scoffs down meat still like it's the only food we can get.

I would love a farm of my own that acts as a sanctuary for moos and pigs etc,.. Wouldn't it be nice to look out over your back porch and say, "You cows don't worry babes, noone will ever send you off to some Auschwitz for animals!

This might sound like a troll comment, but it's not: I honestly can't see much difference between Nazis mass-culling Jews in WWII and how we heard truckload after truckload of cows into 'the camps' for extermination.

The only difference, way I see it, is that cows are much better looking than Jews, and not nearly as greedy.

I cannot imagine by what internally-consistent moral standard one could equate the systematic murder of humans with the slaughter of meat animals.
The closing remark about Jews does serious harm to your position. cn

Why would you want cows?
Methane Gas???
Surplus of food? What planet you on?
Your opinion is yours and I have mine.
Better looking than Jews? Greedy?
Man how many time a year do you get out of your cave LOL!!!!!

Mind you, this is quoted from a topic replied to in 2010 on a therianthropy forum

You know, I'd love to eat free-range this and organic that, but in reality I can't afford it and if I don't buy it someone else will anyway. You may say that's a defeatist attitude but it's the same one I have towards eating meat.

I am a wolf, I eat meat
I love the tase of it, I eat meat
I need my protein, I eat meat

There are plenty of meat replacements and not every carnivore therian on here actually eats meat...

If it's already dead and hitting the supermarket shelf, I'll eat it.
However, if it's still alive and I have the choice to kill it or not, I'm not ashamed to say I don't think I could kill it, simply because I'm unused to the practise.

Some wolf I am, lol. Anyway, so what I'm trying to say is, there's nothing we can do about it, and ultimately all the animals farmed for meat meet the same end. In an ideal world they would all be tenderly hand reared and feel no fear or pain upon slaughter. Unfortunately, that's not really possible, practical or affordable- so, why waste this meat and not eat it in protest? Just eat it and make that animal's life (however miserable it may have been) worth a little something.
Believe me, I am a lover of animals, I hate the way humans industrialized the farming process. Really. But I still eat that shit...

i've been infected with the same bug as you lately.

i haven't sworn off the meat, but i have sworn off supporting any company that is even associated with inhumane and/or cruel practices. this means no fast food chains - at all. all of them are offenders.

hell, i couldn't even buy hot dogs at the store the other day because every single company they carried is known for inhumane treatment of animals.

i've had to give up a lot of the foods i love and am paying way more for food in general, but i am lucky that my practice is not at all unique where i live. portland, oregon is filled with people like me, which makes it slightly easier.

in any case, congrats on your decision and i implore everyone else out there to help by voting with their dollar.

I feel some of the animal cruelty laws are there to harrass ranchers that raise animals for food. Animal rights activists don't want us to eat any meat. They would love to Force all of them out business with regulations.
this is retarded.

animals are being treated in the cruelest of fashion, yet somehow it's the rancher that's being persecuted? makes perfect fucking sense.

those regulations are there to ensure animals are not tortured. the people i buy from manage to treat their animals humanely and still stay in business.

What do you expect from a mass market industry? Do you expect the animals to commit suicide for you or for them to get the death row injection thing and be knocked out before a drug stops their heart?

If you can't stomach what someone else does to an animal before you buy pieces of it in some store, do like Ted Nugent and hunt and kill your own meat. That or start eating weeds and tree bark if you will feel so much better about it and believe that by you not eating meat it will somehow change an industry and maybe save one cute little piggy or cuddly baby lamb from suffering for a few moments before it becomes pork chops or leg of lamb or whatever.

Me, I'm a member of PETA .... People who Eat Tasty Animals.

happy cows:

where the majority of the meat most people eat comes from:

i have no problem with eating meat. what i do have a problem with is the way we treat living beings as commodities.

the cows in the latter pics are confined and grain-fed. the confinement keeps them from moving around so much, so that they get fat quickly. the grain diet is not natural for a cow, it would kill them anyway (if we didn't slaughter them first).

the cows in the former pics will take a much longer time to get to slaughter weight, but they will not be confined for most of their lives. they will have a diet that is natural for them consisting of mainly grass.

you will pay almost twice as much for the former cows as the latter cows, but if you don't want to support inhumane treatment of animals, it is worth it.

i won't even show you the pictures of emaciated cows or tortured cows that are all too common on mass feed lots, you can look them up yourself if you want to be shocked and dismayed at how people treat living beings in the name of the almighty dollar.

and if you really want to be outraged, just google "cal cruz hatcheries" or look into commercial egg/chicken farms. downright appalling.

don't be a cock.

Deer, moose, elk, mule deer, bear etc ... all delicious and all extremely lean meat. It's a lot healthier than the marbled meat from cows that you likely enjoy so much.

I've never been a great lover of meat myself anyhow, I usually eat what's on the plate, meat or otherwise, but 8 times out of 10, I find the meat's no great, tasty, mouth watering indulgence anyway. When I cook my own meat, I actually like steak ultra-rare: Couple seconds on each side, just to warm it up. But generally, with any given meat, I find after a couple bites, I'm over the homogeneous flavour and that's that.

As stated (by you I believe), we're meant to be the most evolved species on the planet, and the western world is SO bloated with food it's just plain gluttonous. But growing too much lettuce or fruit is one thing, commercially murdering animals simply because they're cheap and abundant when so many other kinds of food are going to waste, puts our evolutionary progress somewhat in question, I believe.

Meat has always been *super* nutritious, and back in the days when food was scarce and nutrition was poor, it was a great option. But today, you'd think we'd have moved past living like primitives or fat pigs from the middle ages.

I find it hard to believe we weren't meant to eat animals since they're made up almost entirely of meat. (That's a joke.)

Anyway, in my neck of the woods there are quite a few Hmong families. My next door neighbors are Hmong. They have meat chickens in their yard in a tiny itty bitty little cage that they never come out of. When the family is ready to eat one, they just come outside and kill it. Every once in a while they kill a pig back there. One Hmong friend of mine said she accidently killed her dad's rooster because he ate something he shouldn't have so she slit his throat to get it out. I'm guessing she wasn't trained in chicken heimlech manuevers. I'm all for the humane treatment of animals, regardless of what they're used for. Just because you plan on killing them for food doesn't mean you have to be cruel.

But saying a cow's life is more valuable than a human's is ridiculous. Or that the Chinese people who eat dogs should be killed mercilessly. Wth. Part of being at the top of the food chain is getting to decide who is your food. How we decide who is our pet is completely arbitrary. Who decides a dog is cuter than a cow? So the dog is too cute to eat for Americans. Fine. Personally, the guinea pig is a little too cute for me to eat, but I'm not going to fly across the world and tell people to stop eating things I think are cute. Nobody gets to decide the value of anything's life. But, as part of nature, we're going to obtain our food as long as we can. being human just means we can do that while inflicting as little pain as possible.

Hey, I'm not out there hunting Asians who eat dogs, I just think it's a sickening concept, and my point is that it seems altogether to often, people don't kill animals humanely. Matter of fact, now you've reminded me, not only do the Chinese eat animals that are considered beloved, intelligent pets the world over, they also keep Sun Bears in tiny cages and harvest their bile fluid, restaurants keep live bears out back and whenever they want to create themselves a bear-claw soup for some wanker businessman - for the non-existant, bogus libido boost - they simply go out back, saw-off a claw, and leave the animal there licking it's stump.

And lets not forget those live monkey brain 'party meal'. Saw off the top of a monkeys head, then let all the little China-men grab chopsticks and start digging into it's brain while it's still alive.

You wanna parrot politically correct slogans at me whilst defending such an appalling cultural practice, you go for it.

And I'm not racist at all, before anyone starts on about that. I'd look down on anybody of any ethnic group - regardless the race - for engaging on such disgustingly cruel, neanderthal practices be they Asian, English, Australian or American.

Fuck political correctness. Like you, as a resident of planet earth, we all have the right to speak-out against any practice that causes torment to another living thing. It's a nice cop-out response these days to mumble trite shit about cultural differences, but if something's wrong - it's wrong, and forcing animals to live in hellish suffering - or making them hellishly suffer as they die, is wrong.

I'm not saying people should stop eating meat - planet earth is so far from any eutopian dream - that'll never happen, but treating animals like things should be shunned by all of us.

Anyway, I got baked potatoes and sauce for dinner, so I'm going to eat it :)

I didn't parrot any politically correct slogans at you...I haven't been politically correct a day in my life. I said exactly what you did in a different way - if you want to eat animals, fine. Just do it nicely.
