HELP.... 2 Weeks and dying- Black/Yellow Crispy Leaves (pics)

Hey Everyone,

1st grow and having problems about 2 weeks from seed. It started small but is getting worse. The leaves are turning black and yellow spots and will crisp/dry up like dried spices or something. I just transplanted them into the bigger pots (3 gallon) and also notices white fuzz around the roots (is that normal???)

Could it be too humid and over watered? They may explain the white fuzzy roots I'm freaking out because they were doing soo good!!!!

A little more info:

what lights: 150W HPS with 2 26W CFL for support light
what nutes: None
what medium: Soil
which soil: Miracle Grow Organic Garden Soil (Mix of perlite, spagnum moss, organic material)

Well no wonder. I read problems with MG soil daily.. ye ye some people use it just fine but it's not very friendly and needs proper mixing before using.... Anyways, one mistake you did was using those big pots for seedlings or clones, it's better to transplant 2 times but use the right size, so the humidity cycle of the plant remains stable. Furthermore your need way more perlite, at least 50% on your mix as you learn to dial all things up. This will be a major help for you to prevent over-watering and root issues.

They look hungry but the soil isn't helping either, it holds to much water for the size of your plant. Try scrapping it and pour some Dolomite in it, about 1tb per gallon and then water, this will help stabilize the medium's PH further in the road. Consider start feeding in the next watering and if you can get them out of there better yet-

They were initially potted in that middle type pot in the first pic and just transplanted them. When moving them to the larger pots i noticed that the roots took up the whole pot and starting curlying up at the bottom. Shame shame on me for trying the soil, I will admit I bought it because it was 2 cubic feet for 8 bucks (Winter Special). Will they make it, is there anything i sure do?? Or just start praying

Hmmm if I were you I'd either tread super light with the water for a while or attain yourself some better soil and re transplant, it's always your choice based on what you want to spend, learn, yield and so on. Hopefully whatever you do works out for ya. CB

You can get'em out man, That's terrible damage just from changing soil! could it be transplant shock or it did it go well?. Luckily your old root ball hasn't mixed with the new soil as no strong roots should've grown in there. I recommend using 50% Californian worm Humus and 50% perlite, and feed with chem nutes but there're more choices out there, just make sure you Lime the soil and add the perlite. Btw I'm rofl-ing right now "I bought it because it was 2 cubic feet for 8 bucks (Winter Special)" priceless!

Well, thankfully I only used 2 strain seeds, the other 4-5 were bag seed/freebies. Live and learn I guess.

Miracle Grow is just soil, if it's not the time release nutes one you should be fine. The "fuzzy roots", do not damage them, they're the root hairs that give the roots the surface area to uptake enough water/nutes.

The key is to not fuck with them too much, over-loving your plants is more likely to kill them than anything else. Just water the pot completely and leave it for 5-6 days. Simples.

The plants look moisture damaged and you're telling him to water? geez man how gave you that rep? I do agree with most of your post but that was a Home run sir.

Alright..... I transplanted and watered them (distilled water) on Monday night and i'm forcing myself not to go check on the until Saturday or Sunday. Hopefully that way I wont "love" them to death

Hey guys,

Thanks all for the help again!!! Well last Monday I decided to use some wire and LST them a little bit after chopping off dead leaves and stems to let the new growth flourish. Checked on them this morning (Saturday) and they have recovered nicely. It must have been the over watering and high humidity that was hurting them. The LST worked GREAT, new growth is green and healthy and old growth recovered and looks brand new. I topped the new nodes on three of them hoping to increase yield a little but then again i'm more interested in timeliness than high yield. Will probably stop down again on Thursday, take some picture, and let you guys see how things are going.


Side note: As I went to check on them, I had a faint smell walking down the hall and when I opened up the closet they are starting to smell nice even at this young age (3-4 weeks). 3 smell very much like citrus (oranges) and the other one is typical "dope" smell I guess (diesel/dank is the term i hear alot of people use) Remember, i've never grown OR smoked so i'm getting excited!!!!

Yeah, I dont want to rush it but at the same time its pretty tempting. Thankfully my grow rooms at my house about 25 minutes away from where i'm living which helps and every time i go check on it, i can really see the difference. I'm hoping to upload some pictures within a week and really get some of your guys ideas about how much longer to veg. I know i've got a few weeks of vegging ahead but this is all a new process to me.


Parents will be heading up from Florida in a few weeks to visit, and i'm thinking about the dumb @ss excuse i'll have to make up for the locks on my door and smell from my room. Haha!!!
