I completely disagree that we know less that "5% of the total goings on of the universe". We have an extremely good knowledge of chemistry and physics. We don't know how 100% of everything works, but we have a very good foundation. I can tell you with absolute certainty that life will not exist in a variety of scenarios simply because we know how the chemistry and physics will act under that scenario. The idea that anything is possible is ridiculous. The laws of chemistry and physics are universal.

Disagree all you want. I don't need to argue. NASA does this for me.

So what does only being able to observe 5% of the entire universe have to do with anything? Do the laws of physics still operate the same everywhere?

Can I make a prediction of how water molecules will react other molecules under the surface of jupiters moon? Does my understanding of gravity, mechanical forces, and the chemistry between the different elements make any difference? Or should I just chaulk it up to some crazy mystery where anything is possible because i'm not actually there to observe it first hand?

Your logic is ridiculous.

We can't make mathematical predictions either. We've discovered approximately 0% of the total amount of numbers possible. It's just not possible to have a full understanding of how math works and make predictions until we observe every theoretically possible number.

It's not my logic that is ridiculous, it is your [h=3]arrogance![/h]
I am existing in a universe that is 14 BILLION years old. I can only observe <5% of the universe from my planet which is 4 billion years old. I am basing my knowledge on 5,000 years worth of research, most of which occurred in the last 200 years, by my fellow humans who I KNOW to be extremely fallible and susceptible to delusions, yet I am CERTAIN I know how the universe works.:lol::lol::lol:

I'll take my logic over your arrogance any lifetime.

Can life exist inside dark matter? Can life forms use light to add or subtract mass from their matter? Can I be wrong? Can we all be way off course? NO. The entire universe operates the way our little corner does, even though we aren't even watching the entire universe!

Are you a spokesman for the Catholic Church?

No your logic absolutely is ridiculous. We aren't speculating about unknown stuff. We were specifically talking about biological, chemical, and physical reactions in methane. I don't know everything, but I know you aren't going to get complex life forms out of methane and no water.

Yeah the laws of physics are probably different in the parts of the universe we haven't observed. Never mind they have been confirmed through millions of other observations, we can't conclude they are universal.

"I KNOW" - Arrogance

"Confirmed through millions of other observations" - Please write out your COMPLETED Grand Unified Theory for the universe...AAAAAAND GO!!!

Whoever we are, wherever we're from, we shoulda noticed by now our behaviour is dumb
And if our chances expect to improve it's gonna take a lot more than tryin' to remove the other race or the other whatever from the face of the planet altogether
They call it "The Earth" which is a dumb kinda name but they named it right 'cause we behave the same
We are dumb all over
Dumb all over, yes we are, dumb all over, near and far, dumb all over, black 'n white, people, we is not wrapped tight
And nerds on the left, nerds on the right
Religious fanatics on the air every night, sayin' the bible tells the story and makes the details sound real gory about what to do if the geeks over there don't believe in the book we got over here
You can't run a race without no feet
And pretty soon there won't be no street for dummies to jog on or doggies to dog on
Religious fanatics can make it be all gone
I mean it won't blow up and disappear, it'll just look ugly for a thousand years
You can't run a country by a book of religion
Not by a heap or a lump or a smidgeon of foolish rules of ancient date, designed to make you all feel great while you fold, spindle and mutilate those unbelievers from a neighbouring state
To arms, to arms
Hooray! That's great, two legs ain't bad
Unless there's a crate they ship the parts to mama in
For souvenirs: two ears (Get down)
Not his, not hers but what the hey
The good book says, "It's gotta be that way"
But their book says, "Revenge the crusades"
With whips 'n chains and hand grenades
Two arms, two arms
Have another and another
Our Cod says, "There ain't no other"
Our Cod says, "It's all ok"
Our god says "This is the way"
It says in the book, "Burn and destroy"
And repent and redeem and revenge and deploy and rumble thee forth to the land of the unbelieving scum on the other side
'Cause they don't go for what's in the book and that makes 'em bad
So verily we must choppeth them up and stompeth them down
Or rent a nice French bomb to poof them out of existence while leaving their real estate just where we need it to use again for temples in which to praise our god, 'cause he can really take care of business
And when his humble TV servant with humble white hair and humble glasses and a nice brown suit and maybe a blonde wife who takes phone calls, tells us our god says it's ok to do this stuff, then we gotta do it
'Cause if we don't do it we ain't "Gwine up to hebbin"
Depending on which book you're using at the time
Can't use theirs, it don't work, it's all lies, gotta use mine
Ain't that right?
That's what they say
Every night, everyday
Hey, we can't really be dumb if we're just following god's orders
Well let's get serious, god knows what he's doin'
He wrote this book here and the book says, "He made us all to be just like him"
So, if we're dumb, then god is dumb and maybe even a little ugly on the side

1. I don't need a grand unified theory to make specific predictions that don't rely on any of the mechanisms yet undetermined.
2. Those organisms still need phosphorous. I'm guessing you read the title and fell for NASA's bullshit trying to promote their agenda. The experiment and conclusions were purposely misleading. I suggest you actually go read up on the subject.

You are the one mistaken. While these organisms do use phosphorous, they can substitute arsenic if needed. This was previously thought to be impossible. Hence, what we "Knew" was not accurate at all. If you traveled back in time two hundred years, and started talking about sub-atomic particles, you would have been laughed at at the least. You simply can NOT use physics to bolster a point when physics relies on the scientific method, which is designed to find ERRORS in theories, not support them. Find an Astrophysicist, and ask him if we have enough information to predict ALL life in the universe.

Go back and read the article. It was not a new form of life, and it could not survive with NO phosphorous. The article shouldn't have been published.

I'm not going to EXPLAIN HOW this was still a discovery. Let's look at a different example. How do you explain sub-atomic discovery. How many scientists THOUGHT they "KNEW" about atomic behavior! What about nomadic villagers who KNEW that washing your hands in running water and birds BLOOD would cleanse you from infection! Yet you claim your understanding of the universe is TIMELESS!!!

I laugh at your perception of the universe.
