  • Hey guys its been a long time since iv posted but im starting a new grow!
Slight problem, iv allwats germed by placing seeds between moist paper towels on a saucer, covered with a bowl and left in my boiler cupboard and every single time every seed has germed excellently! however this time something wierd is happened....

All seeds have split (besides one) and i can see the tap root showing, iv kept paper moist and temperature constant but for the last two days there hasnt been any progress all i can see if the white bit of the root but its yet to emerge... Have i killed the seeds? or have they just lost the will to start thier lives?

Any help would be greatley appreciated.

P.s a few of the seeds have changed color (gonae a little bit darker, they used 2 be brownish) and one of the seeds, through the crack i can see a greenish sort of inner skin, both seeds are now in soil and i jus want to know if they will grow?

Get back soon please guys appreciated!

well as soon as you see the taproot then throw her in the soil. if the root isnt very long then just make sure you dont cover it with too much soil.

Sounds like a possible batch of bum seeds...all seeds i've ever germinated that cracked and started poking out within a day has a 1" long root sticking outside it...I just germinated like 12 seeds a couple days ago put in a shot glass with water for a day, poked em and they dropped to the bottom(meaning they sucked up the water they needed to germinate)...transfered to paper towels in a ziplock bag and stuck it on top of my computers power supply...next day 3 of them had 1" long tap roots, and 4 others had the nub showing...planted the 3...next day all 4 had 1" taps and 3 more had nubs...next day those 3 had 1" long taps...2 remain uncracked and sitting in the bag, but I don't care anymore about those ones as I have plenty of seedlings going now as 5 of them have already poked out of the peat pucks...these are seeds I made and I know I have shittons that are immature mixed in with the mature...so I try and germinate extras just in case :D

well try this method next time to be sure they germinate (unless the seeds are duds): find a solid colored cup or container and fill it with water. plop the seeds in the cup and cover it. then after 24 hours the seeds should have sunken from absorbing a lot of water. then take them out and do the paper towel method as normal. that softens up the seed and makes it easier for it to crack! :>)

keep us posted, im curious. I use basically the same method (paper towel in a tupperware on top of fridge) and seeds always either pop or never do, mostly they pop. Never had the just crack and stay inside and a "greenish" color is never good unless its plant growth.. Sounds like a bad batch of seeds but either way keep us posted. New info to post in our knowledge banks. Thanks and good luck.

oh and when they do crack I usually check every 12 hours as well and always see VISIBLE growth... my aim is about 1/2" of taproot and they grow >1/4inch per six hours so I always check them and no harm.

once more........water and a drop of kelp liquid in a pill bottle. when seeds have sank, plant in peat. i like a 2" peat pot. once tap-root shows through bottom, replant to 6" pot. if it doesn't rear its head through the soil......that's Darwin at work. i don't want any punk-ass seedlings in my box....lol.

I don't even use a light locked cup..I use a clear shot glass...sit it on the back of my fridge up against the wall so the heat from the back of it keeps it warm...

You plant the tap root down when it's about 1/2" long is ideal this helps it to have something to take root the shorter it is the longer it takea to take root the longer the tap root the easier and faster it will take off but the longer the tap root is the more chance it'll get tangled up or broken. Put'em in the 18 oz cup with the tap root down and the top of the seed even with the top of the dirt cover with plastic and rubber band for 1 day and they should pop up over night if you have them under lights then you just help the shells off with tweezers or whatever.Picture 180.jpg

I've always been able to germ seeds just placing them between moist paper towels and in a closed drawer. They never took longer than 4 days to be ready to transplant. I have had seeds germ between paper towels until the cotydelons or however you spell it get pretty big, and the root starts to split and dig into the towel, I wouldn't recommend waiting to that point though. If it hasn't gone anywhere in 5 days I would consider it a dud
