i have my HPS sitting about 3 inches away from the top of my plants, in a aircooled hood of course
Yeah i also don't agree with this statement.....I don't think that there is any correlation between loss of lumens and increase in heat output.disagreed. CFL's is the coolest of all. thats why HPS neds cooltubes
Well, you're wrong. Flouro tubes are the coolest of all. True the cfl glass is much cooler than the hps lamp, but the cfl is self ballasted, and the ballast puts out a lot of heat. I can put my hps ballasts outside of the growing area to reduce heat. Also, hps doesn't need cooltubes. I run 400 watts hps in a tiny tent with no cooltube, and I can have the bulb just 8 inches from the top if my canopy. Some of my plants are close to touching the outer perimeter of my reflector, and show no signs of heat issues.disagreed. CFL's is the coolest of all. thats why HPS neds cooltubes
Well then, if all 400w of power aren't transferred into light energy, what kind of energy is it transferred into? Answer = heat energy. Energy doesn't just disappear. Try hooking up 20 x 20 watt CFL's in a tent, then see how hot it gets up top.Yeah i also don't agree with this statement.....I don't think that there is any correlation between loss of lumens and increase in heat output.
Nice, looks like it hits almost 30000 lumens
YW. don't forget though, some tricky nute selection in conjunction with a good lamp can get 1/4/lb and up on each plantok you have convinced me. time to retire them old cfl's. or maybe just use em for veg. numbers dont lie.
thing is my buddy is movin and asked me if i wanted to buy his 250 HPS with ballast and cooler. at first i was thinking "nah i allready got that wattage goin with my lights"
but then i saw heard about the yeild he was gettin....thought it was because of the super nutes and smartpots he was using. guess not
thanks for the replys guys. plus rep to all

Yes, that's true, there is no such thing as lost energy in the universe, just energy transmission.Well then, if all 400w of power aren't transferred into light energy, what kind of energy is it transferred into? LOL MH bulbs don't have cooler operating temperatures. That's just silly. Both are HID and the bulbs get hot ass fuck. You probably don't own a MH. Anybody, I mean anybody can make a simple observation when you shut down an MH and look at the bulb, the quartz inner jacket is red fucking hot, how about that? They aren't even comparable...HPS hands down, although i actually prefer MH due to the heat of the HPS...
yeah im really sorry for askin...my bad my bad. it wont happen againyeah switch to cfl ya fucking nob oppps meant noob cause ya aint got a clue if even asking the question...................
