Tangerine Dream not worth the risk

Hey all, new to this forum, but wanted to provide my input on Tangerine Dream. I ordered 7 different strains (5 - 6 of each), and TD was the only strain to not grow. 4 of the 5 showed tap roots after 36 hours of soaking, then 2 of those 4 began pushing their root tip out. 1 of those remaining 2 just stopped growing and it's root tip disconnected from the seed head. The last one did the same this morning about an hour ago. So of my 7 strains, 38 seeds total, all 5 TD's have now failed, and only 2 of the other 33 seeds failed. So 31 successful out of 38, with 5 of the 7 duds being Tangerine Dream. Barney's Farms doesn't respond to emails, so I guess I out $60 bucks. Based on some quick internet research, I find I'm not the only one having this problem with this strain from them. I personally won't buy ANY strain again from Barney Farms - there are too many good seed companies out there to accept this kind of service/quality (lack of) from BF. Hope this helps others avoid the loss.

My last seed order, I ordered one pick and mix Tangerine Dream. Its 3 weeks in veg without ANY problems at all. Germed, broke soil, topped, and still kicking.

got 5 TD seeds from Barneys Farm. Just germed one of them. This pic is of the plant at the end of vegging. Absolutely no problems with it at any stage (so far).

Just after this strain won cannabis cup and Barney's started selling them people were reporting poor germination rates and generally poor quality seeds. The thought at the time was that Barney's rushed out premature and/or poor quality seeds to meet consumer demand for them. I purchased a pack last year not long after they became available. I haven't germed any of them yet but can confirm they are on the small side and generally look underdeveloped. Light tan in color with faint or no stripes at all. In the same order I got a pack of Querkle from TGA which in comparison are way different. The TGA seeds are large, dark brown and have large black stripes on them.

I do hope the TD seeds germ and grow but the visual quality of them looks poor.

I have no issues with Tangerine Dream myself so far. I have a couple in flower. Big plants. 8 weeks veg meant that they ended up about 5 foot. I can't see them finishing at the 70 day mark like claimed. Mine are due to finish in 3 weeks and there is no way they will be ready. My moneys more on a 80-85 day flower. As far as germ goes. I have had mix results with Barney's. I have been growing on and off for over 12 years, and I hate to think of myself as any kind of noob... but I have to say of any breeder I have ever worked with, Barney's seeds (well at least the feminised ones) don't always pop... i have a 99% success rate with germination of most seeds, barney's is more like 75%.. not knocking the weed itself, some fantastic strains... just seems really hit and miss as to the germination... but hell they are reasonably cheap if you buy the fem seeds at a pick and mix level.. I can live with it... Ill update more on the smoke once these are done..

I've popped a ten pack of the TDream without any problems. All 10 popped in about 3 days. Nothing special just put them into some wet soil and bang. About 2 weeks or so from cropping out. And they look and smell yummy.

That's why i stay away from all major breeders anymore. Just in it for the money nowadays, rather give my cash to an up and comer like Bodhi or somebody like that.

Im beginning to feel that... Ive gone through a phase of buying fem seeds... and let's have it right, what in my opinion are the better breeders (spice of life, BC Bud..etc), don't really do feminised seeds... its been a space thing for me with the vegging... made more sense to go with fem seeds this time... but the majority of these dutch breeders just seem to bang out any old f2 plant with little care... Barney's wins its own cup a lot... i brought in.... lol

How large the seeds and whether striped or tan or whatever, has to do with genetics. Some of the best strains i've grown are small seeds.
If the seeds popped and then died, i'd look internally, not at the breeder.

Mostly yes, always no.. of course naturally some seeds don't germinate.. end off.. some breeders store them badly... if they get moist and then dry again.. they won't germ... most of the time..its us and our stoner madness.... (hold that joint while I rub nicotine on my seeds babe... ;))

I have only tried one about a year ago. Seed rotted, I have another I'm going to try. Almost 10 bucks a seed is kinda expensive but its said to be well worth it. I wouldn't by a pack just for the reasons you mentioned plus my success rate as well but one here and there isn't bad I guess.

The same thing happened to me. I have 5 td seeds i have tried to germ 2/5 seeds so far but they both failed while all of the other seeds i germed grew fine, so they must have been bad ones. I will try to germ the rest soon to determine if they were a bad batch...disappointing because i was looking foward to growing it.

Just on a side note. This seems to me to be one of those strains where warmer temps helps out quite abit starting out. I germ them around 85 degrees and keep it around that temp through the first week of seedling.

I got some tangerine dream 5 pack fem. I got those along with acapulco gold, laughing buddah, and dr, grispoon. Tried 2 beans of each except dr. g. which i had a ten pack so started 5 of those.
All seeds germed, one t.d. came up nice, one was mutated, all others were healthy.
Weird thing in the nice one stopped growing, and started dying, so eventually i transplanted it to new soil hoping to save it.
It came back to life, but didn't grow at all for over a month, so i just put it outside, and it started to stretch as it went into flower, so i brought it back in to reveg it, the mutant grew out of it finally after a while, and is now flowering.
Another thing i noticed is the other barneys strain's started very healthy, and slowed down, while other reg, seeds took off.

Well i'm still feeling disappointed with my Tangerine Dream... 10 days away from the claimed "70 days", with very very little bud formation or trichome production. I look to have a phenotype thats pretty much pure haze, and not in a good way.. Im banking on a 14-15 week flower if not more, and a low arse yield. I can't do anything with the light cycles, as I have other indica strains in with these. I have upped my lighting another 200watt, in some hope to gain more yield. Overall, not impressed with the utter laziness of the breeding of this strain. There may be a phenotype that finishes in 70 days and yields well, after all it has G13 in... but its certainly not stable, and selling these seeds is just well... wrong really! Ill update a bit later in time on progress, I'm not going to pull them... lets see how it eventually smokes...lol

And of course I am aware this strain would flourish no doubt under the right conditions, but if I had the right conditions to grow a pure Sativa i'd of ordered some, but I don't so...lol
