I hear your points shwagbag! But it's beyond color and spectrum and gets to energy the plant recieves. I'm not knocking hps either, a 600 will roll the buds But it isn't always about penetration (huh,huh-huh,huh ) the more energy it receive the better it can still grow the rest of the plant without all the penetration. Still, the energy does have to come in the spectrums needed for the plant to absorb it best also. So CMH (4000k'ish) may not be the answer, and neither HPS (1800-2900k'ish) I bet if stoney could rock a huge 10K MHlamp in their it would rock 'em! A 400 or 250 cmh or mh would still be a good addition...

But wait, stoney hasn't had to deal with heat issues really before! What kind of fan you buying, and filter? I say around 250 cfm! Gotta stay cool, and if riddle is right about temps and environment it may get a little more stinky round there if it gets a little hotter!

A good point about penetration, theoretically you could run a 400 CMH 4-6" closer but the core footprint would be less, basically the perimeter would get slightly hosed.... And with a 4 x 4 space a 600 is already stretched out, it really is appropriate space for 1000w of HID IMO. (2) CMH would be sweet, CMH DEFINITELY does produce more usable wavelength than HPS (according to the manufacturers) but even at closer distances I would venture to guess the penetration would be substantially less. I can only use the top 10" of my plants under my single 600 as it is, I couldn't imagine compromising more.

No bulb impresses me more than the CMH, the only thing I don't care for is the intensity and penetration of a 400w bulb. 4 x 4 just needs more and with perpetual, there won't be any light hitting the floor LOL.

I've peeped around riddl3me's forum and there is some seriously impressive shit over there, its like the CMH club of the internet lol.

I think we'll be seeing Stoney knocked down 6-8 oz per month with the new light, I'm very excited to see it as I'm sure everyone else is too, nobody more than he is haha.

With ambient temps of 70-73 outside the box I use a 300 cfm (I think) through a filter and an air cooled hood to keep my temps under 80 without any problems in the winter, summer may be a different story. Hoping he doesn't creep much past 80 if his temps are cool... Now the odor is another thing. He's going to have a lot more bud mass so there's definitely going to be more stAnk to the dAnk lol.

EDIT: Believe it or not though, the plants in my LED tent, although not much mass to the bud itself, are frosty as all hell and honestly stink more than my 600 tent.

man i am sooooo tempted to throw the MH in for two weeks along with two spectras and see what it does. the amount of red light equals that of a 600w hps, so if i added in some extra blue........ I would only run this for a couple weeks if i did at all. i guess i need somebody to talk me into it..... then i would have to talk my woman into it... she is pretty adamant about using just the hps.... smart girl! but she always has me make the final decisions anyway...

HEAT! hahahahahaaha not up here bro!!! it's 52* in my basement now! plus i never took pics out of respect for a friend but i was babysitting a friends grow op in my basement this summer and had a 1K hps down there during the hottest three months of the year and it was fine!!!! it never reached over 70 down there in 10 years.... a growers dream spot right!!!!

plus i have a kick ass exhaust!!! I'm not worried about the heat one bit. this is why I opted for the cheap hood and not an air cooled hood. plus like i said, I'm going vertical so a hood will not even be used.

i agree my space warrents a 1K. I was tempted but decided not to... i think the 600 placed vertically in a strategic fasion will gove me the same results as a 1K horiz. NOW.. the 1K horiz. would leave room for a few more plants. but i think i will be pulling 2x the amount i have been. and what i've been getting has been keeping me toasted. but it will be awesome to get back to smoking more HUGE fat joints that stoneyluv is known for!!!! seriously, i roll some of the meanest joints!!!!

right now with my heater on and the three panels on my room temp is 82.9 right now. the heater really keeps the roots warm nice. so i may... MAY.. keep the heater in ther and just run it when the HPS is out. the radiant heat from the bulb shuld maintain the warmth... I hope!!!!

my exhaust has three speeds so i really don't see it a problem. we will all know next week.... hell, maybe even this weekend!!!


edit*** oh yea, the smell..... YEA already a huge problem!!! has been for years now!!! hahaha I'm gonna get some ONA. my friend uses that stuff and it is really amazing. if anything i need a jar for emergencies. he opens a jar of it near a fan and the entire room is smell free in about two minutes!!!! I'm gonna put some just in front of my exhaust to draw it through the cabinet of stink!!!! hehehehehe

So buy 1 600 watt HPS, 1 400 watt MH or CMH. Run a vert tube up from the bottom to the top dead center. 400 goes dead center right below canopy level, 600. Goes to the top till a better location is determine. Build bay windows on your cabinetand place teds tucked away in their! Pull out the sunglasses

Now you could use this in any configuration of course. As we know you will over time

A 1k is far from necessary, really. I love the way you're thinking though, I've always wanted to do a vertical grow and I love to follow them. I can almost guarantee you won't yield less than 6 zips per month (barring nutritional issues of course), probably much higher once its dialed in. Perpetual is effin awesome, I love it. AHAHAHA, LOVE IT! We all know what happens once we start growing and that sounds like a pretty likely timeline or something close to it LOL.

All the chatter the past couple days and this discussion followed by another mention of CMH in Club 600 just got me to pull the trigger on a new air cooled reflector and a CMH 400 4k. Going to add it to the 600 box

Excellent infoz, I browsed through that thread when I joined there. It was my main reason for joining to see what the CMH gurus were up to lol. VERY happy to hear that CMH had superior penetration to the 400 HPS. Hoping for comparable penetration between the 600HPS and 400CMH. And who doesn't love some dense nugz?!

with all the great results and many many growers using them it is only a matter of time before they make a 600 and 1K. there is to much of a demand for them not to!!!

and ya know... my LED days are still in full motion... I do still have a PROVEN led panel that flowers!!! it's just a 1W diode, but....... with all the yellow and green that an HPS produces they may be able to carry the other spectrums through the leaves to help with penitration.

I'm thinkin a 600 HPS vertical and two blackstars above it!!!!!! hehehehe J/K.. i'm not gonna buy anymore lights for a while!!
