Considering two SOLARFLARES or one SOLARSTORM

I don't think 400W's of LED per flowering tent is going to work out very well.
That would work for vegging, but is not enough light for the flowering you want.
Despite the differences in LED and HID, they have one thing in common, always flower with around 50W's of light per square foot.
4'x4' tent = 16 square feet
16 x 50W's = 800W's
I'd say that 600W's of LED is as low as you can go for a 4'x4' tent during flowering and still get decent results.

This is a new and untested company in the marketplace, so be wary, and spend your money wisely.
Good luck.
I agree here... I think 2 Solarflares would be great for my 2x4 tent, but you would want 4 Solarflares for a 4x4 tent... IMHO

Checked my email, George says a 2x2 area for flowering for the solarflare. So, I'd need 4 for my 4x4 tent....

I'm thinking the solarstorm instead now...
Yay!!! I am overjoyed to hear that George says 2x2 area, because I believe that he is telling the TRUTH and the TRUTH is what we need more of =D Even the product information .pdfs on their website advertise 3x3 area for a Solarflare, so I am personally very satisfied to hear that George got real, and broke it down for you, and told you 2x2, and to use 4 Solarflares in a 4x4 tent

I would so rather have 4 Solarflares for the advertised $1800, than one Solarstorm for $2000... but like you said, to each their own! GOOD LUCK!!!

In veg, with a Veg master panel, you can get away with using one solarflare in a 4x4 tent. For flowering the Solarflare is good for 2x2 optimally, or 3x3 at the maximum.

as per George...

S360 Spectral Spinner
The S360 Spectral Spinner is the perfect solution for growers who want to customize the light their plants receive. Designed to be used over a 4' x 4' grow area, S360 spins continuously to allow light to be spread evenly. This setup eliminates hotspots and provides more uniform growth over the whole area. With space for up to six Kessil LED grow lights, growers can mix and match different spectrums or intensities for a completely customized light formula!

Damn it, now I am back to wanting to try out kessils again. There's so many leds I want to try out it's crazy. I think I'm addicted to leds...

Hey Guys,

I just got a solar storm a couple weeks ago. Solar Storm LED Review.jpg

I haven't had time to do any growing with it yet, though I should be shortly. Like Puffenuff I'm addicted to LEDs and have no more room in my house right now with my current LED grows. I would kick out my children but they are both under 4 years old so it would seem a bit harsh. :)

I did do an interview with George, the owner of California Lightworks. You can read it here: California LightWorks Interview. I always give the owner a chance to advertise their lights, but I think if you read through some of the fluff you can find some pretty good information.

Anyways, I'm not sure how the light performs yet, but I will say that I came away very impressed with George. I think in a few years California LightWorks will be one of the leaders in the LED grow light industry.

P.S. I'm usually with the group that prefers several smaller LEDs over one large one, but I thought I'd go big this time. haha. That and the UVB light intrigued me.

Thinking about putting two solarflare 200's in my 36x20 grow tent. Any thoughts from you guys on the temps? will they even fit?

what would you go with?
A simple search on the "led companies with links" will give you plenty choices including area51 and a few others mentioned down the line of the thread.

One thing I should say here and may not be popular amongst mericans is since when is "made in America" going to guarantee a better made product????

Think about it...

It doesn't. It just means if something goes wrong we don't have to pay extreme shipping charges to have it repaired. You also save on the shipping times to and from.

Name me one led panel that has all TRUE five watt emitters driven at 4.2w per diode that doesn't run hot.............i'll wait:p
And your point is what????.....they look ugly, they still run hot...no wonder they have cheesy flames on them and if they were the business we would be seeing a lot more people buying them and doing journals with them...oh yes that's why few people buy them...they are expensive!! :-)

Ironically this is the first time this is mentioned when bringing up the "Made in America" subject. I can tell already that some folks are getting patriotically defensive....

I'm more concerned that the panels are HUGE, loud (the storms anyway), the fake grow journals and the warranty being reduced from 3 to 2 years.
Flames on the unit and ugliness just don't factor into it for me. Not that it matters since how it looks is an opinion and I just don't agree with yours.

If anyone is defensive it is probably because since you came back to this forum it sounds as if every reply from you is laced with venom?
