Soil mixture help needed

Hello all, Well I made a trip today to round up some items for my soil mix but was not able to get everything I needed.
I am a noob and want to go with as much organic items as possible.
Here is a list of what I was able to come up with today. If anyone can tell me at what ratios I should mix it together at and if there is something that I can substitute for what I am missing.

2 Bags of roots organic soil
20# worm castings
2.2# Jamican Bat guano
32qt bag of Premier shrimp compost (don't know if I should use it or can use it but they thru it in for free)
1 bag of Algamin Kelp meal (another freebie the store thru in for free)

I think they may have thrown in the freebies because they didn't have everything I was looking for, On top of the freebies they thru me a 15% discount on all the stuff they did have.
I went to 3 grow shops and was unable to find Fish Bone Meal, Blood Meal, Azomite and Powdered Humic Acid.

I am wanting my mix to last all thru the grow or as close as possible with little amendments added later. Is this going to be enough?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

OH Yeah, that'll do ya!!! Mix 75% soil with 25% worm castings, mix that thoroughly. Then (based on a 5 gal bucket of soil) add about a cup and a half or 2 cups of Guano, and 2 cups shrimp compost. Use that through out the grow, when you're ready to flower, add (top dress) some Bone meal about 2 weeks prior to flipping them. Use the Kelp as a tea and a foliar feed (Dont spray the buds). You ought to get some great smoke!!!! You could possibly use some other stuff, but that right there will get ya!!!

When you say 75% Soil and 25% Worm castings is this by weight or volume??
As for the Bone meal top dress, How much would you top dress with??
Could you shed some light on how to make the kelp tea?? And how much and how often do you foliar feed?

Oh I can almost guarantee you they have bone meal and blood meal. Either Miracle Gro Organics or Espoma Brands. The Azomite you REALLY don't need, it's nice but not an absolute requirement, and I am pretty sure they have a decent no nutes potting soil. They have composts, but they damn sure aint gonna give you any shrimp compost or Kelp as a freebie!! In fact, the only freebie I ever got was the string I used to tie down some lumber when I built the room.

No sir... I looked myself for 20 minutes Had one employee look for another 10Min and then she got another guy that looked for 10min then went to the computer and looked it up and they were sold out.... I guess its the wrong time of the year for them to stock the garden center. They had some Epsoma lime but no Bone meal or Blood meal.

As for the freebies at HD, Hell I can remember back in the day you could go into a lumber yard and walk out with all sorts of freebies. That shit dont happen today with the big box stores.

Black Strap Mollasas would be a good addition to your organics. Check your local health foods store, Great stuff and dirt cheap.

I go to home depot all the time. They have bone meal and blood meal it is in the garden section.... obviously. Diatomacious Earth is in the pesticide area if looking for that. Sounds like you got someone that was new and did not know what they were. Home depot has stuff that will work.

I would suggest going to your local dirt and rock store and buying some premade stuff buy the bucket that includes sand and compost with just enough gravel and it is cheap. If not the generic will work just add to it your ferts.

Top dressing is just that put it on top and water it will trickel down. When it is all gone add more you did not add enough so that is a variable based on watering and amount that flushes the top dressing away.


When mixing it is buy volume because not all things weigh the same.

A simple kelp tea recipe would be - 1tps Kelp powder or 2ml kelp liquid extract, 1 litre of water. If using powder rehydrate before adding to water by mixing with a little warm water. ... With this you can feed leaves as often as you like but I would do twice weekly. Try not to get buds wet during flowering. I tend to take care when foliar feeding and DON'T just spray everywhere but treat each large fan individually (topside and underside). To some this may seem like an excessive amount of time but I have found through close attention of the leaves youre abe to pick up problems quickly.

Ok, The kelp meal I have is ground to a 14mesh Kind of course to spray. When you say rehydrate. Can I brew the tea and use a bubbler and then strain the solids off?? Or do I need to get a liquid?

Liquids are great, you can just tell its the stuff and i can see the difference in leaf health easily. I bought 1 litre and ive almost finished it but ive noticed a slight smell coming of it lately. Obviously powder has better shelf life, ive just started with it.

I gave you a simple foliar feed recipe, what you suggested above would be even better. You dont NEED a liquid or even any type of foliar feed but curiosity compels the amateur grower to try most things sooner or later.
