First time Ever Grow Hydro

Well out of 7 plants I am down to 3 females so far. I hope none of them herm on me. Oh well, glad they are just bag seeds. All the roots look extremely white with no slim or anything. All the plants had roots laying in the tray. If I do a big scrog, wouldn't I have trouble with root bound in my small pots?

I've grown some pretty massive plants with only 2 gal smart pots with flood and drain. Like 4 footers... yielded 4oz off one plant, ect... with hydro the root size doesn't seem as important because they are much more efficient at eating than soil. With hydro it seems more important to keep you feed stabilized and ph in check. For soil I've heard the general rule of thumb is 1 gal per foot of plant. Hydro I'd say you could do 1/4 to 1/2 of that... 1 gal / 2ft would be reasonable.

Hello OLDLuck! Sorry for having males! This much of effort doesn't deserve having males. I def suggested you doing SCROG. I haven't had final result yet but the growing is far crazier comparing to simple letting it grow vertically. SCROG helps to enlighten all the bud sites not only the top ones. And those lamps that penetrate the leaves and bring light to lower parts of the plant create so much heat that you could fry eggs near your exhaust!

Well, I'm down to two plants now. 2 Different strains (one is short and one is tall). The short one seems like it could have vegged for another week or so. Nothing fancy with this bag seed. I hope the plants start to fill out some in the next couple of weeks. Let me know what I should do if anything. Thanks for all the help guys. Do the plants still look healthy besides the stretch of one of them.

bad luck would be if he got all 7 as males... chances of that are... 2x2x2x2x2x2x2= 1 in 128

so you have a 1in 128 chance that they are all male lol

sorry bout the bad luck
wouldn't call it bad luck, but really what could i expect from a sack of seeds from buds over the last 10 yrs. plus, if all 7 were females then i would be trying to get more light to all the plants. at least I get to finish the grow and learn all i can on flowering, drying, and curing. now if I would have paid $50 or more for some fem seeds and this happen, then that is bad luck.

lol pickle!

yes 7 males from 7 "feminized" seeds, would be very bad luck LOL
I am scared shitless of those feminized seeds seeing everyone getting hermies... being able to play around with different strains alot easier would be fun though. So have you confirmed 3 females so far or are they just unknowns at this point?

Thanks for checking pickle. Go back a page and the last post you can pixs of my 2 plants. Let me know what you think. Yeah, was thinking about growing some more bag seeds until I get really good. Been looking at seeds and trying to pick out females from the seeds so I might see if it that is true to do.

Yea I dunno if you could actually pick out the females from seeds but maybe, they all look the same too me and if your using bagseeds from different weed your also going to be looking at different types of seeds which will make picking females even harder. I heard that theres ways to increase your chances of getting females during the first couple weeks of vegg but I find that kindof difficult to believe. Basically I think all the suggestions were just to minimize stress.
After this grow are you sure you want to continue using bagseeds? if you prove yourself capable of growing and it all goes well then Id suggest getting some seeds. I imagine bag seeds are caused often by hermied plants in someones growroom, which means the seeds will have a higher tendency to hermie, which means your taking a big chance using bagseed. I personally wont even buy feminized even though I do see there being advantages, just the prospect of hermie plants is scary for me, with all of the time and money Ive invested into the plants. btw in one week since I posted my message about my plants growing all slow and everything they have doubled in size lol, grew 4 new nodes in 1 week. I actually just topped them all, and Im trying to clone the tops that I removed, so hopefully Ill have another wave of plants when these are all done flower. unfortunately I forgot to label which clones came from which plant :wall:

I still have another month of vegging to go, and they are a 12-14 week flowering strain so dont hold your breath, but I think its gunna turn out really nice:mrgreen:

Ya sure seems like we all get more hermies now, then ever before...but maybe that's because we have better social media and talk about it more....bongsmilie

I was just saying that no matter how well these plants turn out, I'm not sure if I will be wasting good seeds just yet. If you look through my pages you will see I have several different good seeds to try. I'm really not in a big hurry and even if I get a few hermies in there I can then figure if it was something I did to cause it or oh well, bag seed. This is the chart I was going by on figuring out the beans. When I put some good beans in I want to know for sure that it grows like everyone else around here and my knowledge of growing, drying, curing, and cloning is not there yet. This is all just for my personal enjoyment so when I buy the best beans I know they will be grown to there best abilities. And if I can get this bag seed weed to taste and smoke good with a decent buzz then I can wait a little longer for the good stuff. Plus there are still a few changes that need to be made over the course of a couple more grows before I will feel comfy bragging about my work. Believe me bro, I do understand what you are saying. How do my 2 orphans look? Yes, they do grow fast. I had two at 19 inches at 4 weeks veg and the 1st week of flower they were 30 inches and before I killed them they were 40 inches tall. I love the way they grow!! Thanks for checking in and posting. +respect
