It's not legal where I am but i think it would be leglised quickly if the US legalised.

after all, It is the US that spread so much of the lies about the plant. not all by any dtretch, but they deffinatly played a key role.

He talked about it a little on last weeks Real Time with Bill Maher--I liked what he had to say but I think he realizes w/o admitting it that we're still years away from being able to get something like that passed and signed into law. He doesn't want to admit that it's a symbolic effort, as that would undermine it, but that's exactly what it is.

When you hear a Presidential candidate talking about legalization w/o being written off as a representative of the lunatic fringe, then we'll be getting somewhere. Not that long ago, Bill Clinton was compelled to spout that ridiculous 'didn't inhale' line to maintain his electability, even though it was a complete sham. George Bush had to make recourse to his born again conversion experience to stave off questions about earlier drug use. Last week the media was in love with the new NY Governor, David Patterson. Now they're acting all freaked out because he admitted to experimenting with pot and coke in the 70s. If this had come out earlier, he likely wouldn't have been Lt. Gov and now wouldn't be the Governor--even though last week he was 'just what New York needs.' And this is New York we're talking about. Is there anyone in New York that didn't do coke in the '70s? (Yes, I'm kidding, hahaha only serious.)

We need to get a lot further with decrim and medical in order to change public opinion such that supporting a legalization bill wouldn't be political suicide for a future president or candidate. Otherwise, even if we get lucky in Congress it won't get through the White House.

Nailed that one...It's taken far too long with too many
variables for one man's opinion to convince the majority
vote.

The government would have to find a way to profit off
it before legalization is hinted at, let alone getting it
passed. You make a good point about political suicide...
With the race right now, We will have to wait a while
to see if any of the remaining three will come around
once being established for a while...I'm sure legalization
is not on top of the priority list right now.

Every effort helps, but there is a bigger picture to look
at...
