Concerned about my first grow - seeking advice

All,
I remain concerned about my grow and seek your continuing advice.

Details of my previous post are contained below. The attached pics show current state of plant. The plant had recovered nicely from previous sins by: 1) stopping over watering; 2) use of humidity dome; and 3) one application of < 1/4 strength nutes.

Plant was doing so nicely I thought I would remove humidity dome, place plant within 2 " of lights and introduce an air circulation fan within grow box. Checked plant the next day and discovered "crispy" leaf tips and increased yellowing.

Any thoughts on my problems/corrective action appreciated. So far I've thought of nute burn, too much light too soon or ???? Temps remain in 78 - 80 deg range; humidity ~ 40%; using 6 - 100w equiv CFLs.

My previous post is detailed below. Changes I've made as a result of advice received:

 • moved plant to 6 " from light
 • changed light cycle from 24/0 to 20/4
 • stopped watering (until today). Today's weight of the pot was approx 50% of fully watered pot.
Pics are attached - this does not appear to be a healthy plant to me (yellowing leaves). Again, any and all advice most appreciated.

Just started my grow and am concerned with progress; request any ideas/comments on what am I doing wrong or suggestions for improvement.

My setup:

 • · “Rubbermaid” style grow box

 • · 6 - 100w equivalent CFLs

 • · 50 CFM fan

 • · 3 Nirvana feminized Northern Lights planted in 16oz plastic drink cups

 • · Grow medium is Pro mix BX with handful of pea gravel in bottom of each cup

 • · Watering with distilled water adjusted to ph ~6.5

 • · Plants within 1 – 2 inches of lights
Growing conditions:

 • · Temps 75-83 degrees F

 • · RH 30%
 • · 24/0 light cycle
 • I currently have lost 2 of 3 plants; remaining plant is definitely growing
My concerns:

 • · Plants require watering every other day; I’m checking soil dampness one inch up from container bottom through hole in side of container
 • · Could the loss of the 2 plants be due to random infant mortality?
 • · Could I have too much ventilation (currently set up exchanges air in grow box 6 – 8 time per minute)?
 • · Lastly, on the surviving plant the initial round leaves on yellowing; I understand this to be a signal to add nutes, but could this be true only 1 week into grow?
Thanx to all in advance!

Every other day watering is not abnormal in my opinion, probably just because you have such good ventilation.

Plant death could have been related to any number of reasons.

I don't really think there is a such thing as TOO much ventilation unless it is negatively effecting temps or humidity. 30% is on the low side, but typical for my grows, so I mist my plants alot.

The yellowing of the leaves would be my concern. Many of my younger plants take me a while to get stable sometimes, and I often have some yellow growth on my early leaves. My concern would be the fact that you also have brown spots. The pictures are good and maybe someone could give a better diagnosis that me, but I would learn more toward nute burn or over watering before assuming nute deficiency in this case. I'm not experienced with the strength of CFLs, I use a MH in veg, and just place my young girls across the room on the end of the light beam, but too much light while being so young is a possibility as well. I wouldn't think a CFL could do it, but would be something I would look at if it was happening to mine.

I do always remember that this is "WEED" and it is supposed to be easy to grow. I always assume first I did too much of something and try to fix by doing less stuff that I was before adding more variables.

I don't think it's rootbound, that looks more nute burn mixed with overwatering. It looks like your newest growth is healthier, so I'd say the changes you made were for the better. Just continue to do what you are doing, make sure you aren't putting your fans directly on your girls (saying this from experience unfortunately) and don't foliar feed with any nutes while the lights are on, it can burn the leaves so do it right before lights off. Your humidity looks fine and last but not least, don't worry about those original round leaves yellowing, those are nothing but feedbags essentially, and once their stores of food are depleted they will yellow and die. The rest, not so much. It's possible that it's root bound but it wouldn't cause the copper discoloration, though it wouldn't hurt to get that thing in a 1 gallon pretty soon, if nothing else to give your roots some breathing space. Okay one more thing, get some beneficial bacteria in there. Myccorhizal (sp?) Fungi is Nature's friend and is found in 95% of the soil on earth. It will attach itself to your roots and colonize, aiding in nutrient uptake, helping the plant survive your accidental under and overwaterings, and also protects against many pests. A little of that goes a long way, but it might be a good idea for you to start using some of that to help buffer your watering mistakes. Good luck raz!
