Please explain how much molasses you use, when and how it is administered to your plants, and the science behind why you do this?
As for me, I believe that I made a rookie mistake. I did some initial research, and decided that the weekly addition of 1 Tbs/2gal (Waterfarm reservoir is ~2gal) would be beneficial to my plants. I didn't do enough research! Within a couple days after adding the molasses, the plant looked HORRIBLE.... droopy, dying. The Waterfarm reservoir had become a murky, cloudy biological (bacterial I assume) soup with a destructively high pH. I had to flush extensively in order to revive the plant, and lost some of the main stalks (in retrospect, I should not have cut these... they probably would have recovered like the others and produced... but *sigh* oh well) I did a quick search, and found grow journals of other folks who experienced the same problems with molasses in hydro, and one user posted on my thread that he had experienced the same thing

Further research, my own experiences, and the experiences of others have helped me to better understand the science behind the use of molasses in plant cultivation. I understand the biological mechanisms and pathways more clearly, and realized that I had jumped the gun. I might use molasses if I grew in soil, but I do not. I don't currently use foliar feeding brews, but if I do in the future, molasses might make a useful ingredient...
a great read
