I bought a new 1000w light and ballast in 2009...last year a MH bulb exploded, and a few months ago a HPS bulb did the same thing. Should I role the dice and go for three,? I need to use it now again...everyone says this never happens, so I'm thinking the fixture itself is bad...or just a few bad lucks?..IDK
Good hortilux bulbs too.

Are you foliage spraying when the bulb is hot?if so maybe you got it wet and it cracked.

No, we went thru every possible senerio on another thread. The 1st time I had the glass cover off and thought maybe a ladybug hit the bulb...but the 2nd time the glass was on and the vents have screens over them...I don't spray anything with lights on or near the lights. The grow shop people I've talked to said they never had it happen in 20 years....I just hope the fixture isn't bad. We'll find uout, I just fired it up with a HPS dual ark spectrum 1000w...if that one blows I'm gong to see if they'll swap out the fixture and bulb. I've spent enough money in there to buy a small island, so it shouldn't be a prob.

what kinda ballast is it? i have a digital with a Hortilux...alota folk told me it might blow up the bulb but sofar so good lol ... id buy a cheap ass hps to try out, like a $18 phillips or something, if that blows than you need a ballast

If anything sell it then get another one.If they said they haven't seen it in 20 years then I think you have a defective fixture.I don't do indoor so I have no ideal but that what it sounds like.Maybe the fixture is giving it more Watts then what the bulb could handle.
