First Harvest - Is She Done?

By looking i would say yes, have you chceked the tricomes???
I ordered a scope from ebay about 2 weeks ago and so far is hasn't gotten here. The nearest Radio Shack is probably the only store in the country that doesn't carry them and I can't find one anywhere locally. I have a 6x magnifying glass that is fair and I can definitely see that many of the trichomes are white but I really haven't seen any that I can identify as amber. I can see that a few are still clear and the white hairs are about 60% dried so she's getting really close, I know, but I keep vascillating back and forth. I don't want to cut her too soon, but I don't want to wait too long either. I'm thinking about a dual harvest...a little now and a little later...

But I won't have a scale till next weekend and I kinda want to know her wet/dry weight, being as how she's my first and all...

Gak...I just dunno... :-)

In my grow room now, I've got Red Cherry Berry and Vanilla Kush in 5 gal DWC buckets. They've been vegging about 2 weeks. I just set a Kaya Gold seed into rockwool tonight so that ought to be up in a few days if it's coming at all. Then I have a propagator full of Northern Lights crossed with Blueberry clones and they haven't rooted yet. They are on day 4 in the prop. Once they root, I think I'm going to put them in soil and then put the whole room into 12/12. By then the Kaya Gold will have come up (or not) and the RCB and VK will have vegged about 3 weeks. It'll ought to be a fun and varied grow. I'll probably start a journal on it all once I get everybody set and ready to flip.

very nice blue mate very nice indeed...thanks for link mate...
I took Alice out for a little trim and I ended up weighting down her longer arms and opening her up for some extra light to the inner buds for the final week or so. While I had her out, I decided to take some pics.

In the last pic, I threw her into the tub with the 2 week olds in their 5 gal buckets just for perspective. She is really quite tiny. But at this point, and by the time she's harvested, she will be one solid bud with almost zero leaf.

Helloooooo

i think its great that your rescuing the plant. from the pics i can tel your doing a good job. i would say to worry about nutrients, the plant's fan leaves are wilting and dying, could be a variety of nutrients that are low, especially the micro nutrients.
but looking at the buds, they seem close to ready to harvest, and anywhere within 2 weeks of harvest, nothing but the purest water you can find.

now, to tell if they are ready, the microscope is the best way. im a jeweler by trade, so the simple jewelers loupe (99% of them are x10, there are some stronger x15 or x20 but its not common) is what i use.
anyways, check and see:

im sure we all harvest at different times, personally i get some around full cloudy and some at full amber, but its your choice really.

Question: you titled this "first harvest - is she done?", will there be more in the future?

PS: i dont know any grandma that types "lol" so you win

Thanks for stopping by my thread. Yes there will be more... I currently am finishing out Alice in grow box, but my main grow area is currently stocked with:

1 each Red Cherry Berry and Vanilla Kush - both have been vegging about 2 weeks.
1 seed of Kaya Gold has been set to pop
1 clone of Alice that is doing marginal...questioning the viability of that one still
and 13 clones of Northern Lights x Blueberry that were gifted to me -- these have been in the propagator 5 days now and they are doing good. 8 of them are very strong and the other 5 are doing moderately well.

Once I get every thing settled, I will probably start my own grow thread for my first "official" grow.

Alice has taught me a LOT and she was a very forgiving tutor. I will never forget her. :bigjoint: ...at least until I light the tip...

Well, I finally gave up waiting on my lighted scope from eBay -- looks like I've been cheated out of a whole $1.99 including shipping.

So I went to the nearest Radio Shack that had one, which of course, was NOT the one nearest me and got me a 60x-100x scope.

And I finally got a good look at Alice. Almost all of her trichomes were cloudy and a good many were amber so she is absolutely done. The hairs were are orange and curly and she was just done. So I chopped her.

It was impulsive, and I was home alone to manage the task, but it was a load of fun. Alice was a small plant so I was able to do the trimming in just under 2 hours by myself. I don't have any scales till Friday, so I don't know the wet weight, but by the time she's dry, I'll have a way to weigh the yield.

Pre-trim, post-trim and 2 pics hanging.

Thanks Munkie!!! I have to laugh when I think about the next... my RCB is already bigger than Alice was and I'm planning at least another week of vegging her before 12/12. Also in the grow room at the moment, I have a lovely Vanilla Kush, a clone of Alice that is still sketchy, a Kaya Gold that just popped up this morning, and 13, yes 13 clones of Northern Lights X Blueberry. Looks sort of like all 13 might survive! Woot.

The sicklier looking ones in the back actually were the first to show a little root, so I'm thinking they might make it. So, after my first semi-grow with one plant, I am now looking at taking care of and raising 17. What was I thinking!!!?

Pass them onto friends, or bite the bullet and just go all out (I would). As long as you keep on top of feeds, ph and general plant maintenence you can pull it off imo.
The ones at the back could do with a little watering now roots are coming through, they'll pick up then (Hydro ~ ph 5.8 ). No nutes yet just water ....

I do have a couple of acquaintences around the hood who grow and would probably LOVE to get a nicely rooted clone. As soon as I start potting them, I'll see what I comfortably have room for, pick the best and gift the rest. Pay it forward kinda thing...

Looks awesome. You're for sure the coolest granny I know. I (sadly) had to chop my babies last night. 5 weeks premature. Bad shit went down and I couldnt risk having them. :(
So regardless, it was my first grow and I got alot of experience from the whole thing. I got a couple grams of good bud from it and took all the trim and made some iso hash.

Awww, that's way too bad about your grow. But I hear ya about learning a lot along the way. I am growing hydro this time so it's like starting over from scratch again after Alice, who was in MG soil. Its good you were able to salvage something anyway.
