Im not going to waste my time reading this entire thread, however, I work for one of the largest electric companies in the USA and we have technicians who do random meter tests/upgrades access issue checks to your meter, and we get bonuses from police and our company if we can help bust people stealing power, specifically for marijuana. So A word to the wise, WE CAN TELL EXACTLY HOW MANY AMPS ARE BEING PULLED FROM OUR LINES AT ANY GIVEN TIME FROM SUBSTATION AND SOMETIMES NEIGHBORHOOD, IF THE NUMBERS DO NOT ADD UP TO THE AMT OF KWH'S BILLED FOR AN INVESTIGATION IS DONE. okay fucking shit for words i cut in to my main cable before my meter 2 years ago, i have a grow room with 8 x 600w lights and all the other electric grow room gadgets, i am using around 240v 6000w 25 amps hr ( of electric power on an 18/12 basis for a month and then a 12/12 basis for two months over a year with 4 grows, i work that out at a SHIT LOAD per year consumption that is stolen at my house, so where the fuck are you, i am waiting for you with your fucking special tools and your fucking computerised meters to catch me.
i pay for the normal consumption at my house, which is about the average household usage, they have been in to check my meter on numerous occasions.

so YOU know it is being stolen, SO FUCKING WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT BRAIN OF AMERICA. you better tell the meter reader because he has not noticed.

the new technology for banks is for their computer to text your mobile every time your credit/bank card is used so that you know that your card has been used without your authority, there is even a way around this.

I know how you can get caught! someone get your ip address from posting on an online forum, contact the local utilities and police and advise them you illegally steal power and grow marijuana, and then you'll be arrested. Well Einstein, most cities around America now have digital electric meters as I do and have had for over 3 years. Your little trick will not only get one caught for theft and growing, but for most of the civilized world there is no such thing as a gear electric meter anymore. With Xcel and other larger electric providers, many of the new digital electric and gas meters are readable remotely and have tamper alarms on them.

First off, you DO NOT work for any electric company. Second, technicians DO NOT perform RANDOM meter checks, EVER. The ONLY time meter checks happen is for four reasons; the monthly check for billing, an annual check for maintenance, a stealth check for unusually large electricity use(this type of check is issued by management or investigators not techs, it's usually done to an entire community or block, not a individual home)or if a warrant or request is issued by law enforcement. The electric companies nor ANY law enforcement, DO NOT give out bonuses to techs for helping to bust people stealing electricity. That is just not true.

Is it possible that the power company can compare the kW/hours (or whatever unit they use) that they have billed an area for, versus the actual draw on the grid in that area. If there is a discrepancy, then they could isolate the offending residence with more localised meters.

You better get your facts straight asshole. I work for Consumers Energy and we can narrow power lose to a 1/4mile square area on the grid within an hour. Transformers have little to do with it. Its the monitoring meters installed throughout the grid that gives us the info we need.

if you want to steal power, IT MUST be done before the meter where the connection cannot be seen, even better, under ground.

6kw an hour computes to over 10 x 50" plasma tvs on for 18 hours per day in a home.

they have been abler to pinpoint electric power leakage since the sixties, hence the need for smart meters.
the sm/meters tell them the power usage and even if they have been switched off by someone to cut in to the supply.

aye well you take your fuckin 10 pence worth and talk fucking sense, they do not know how much is going in to a street. more than one street will share a transformer, all they will know is there is a power leak as the usage and bills for the area do not tie up, this has been going on since the first meters were installed in homes, that is why they will get the police if you do not give them access to read your meter and you have not been paying any bills. if you bypass your meter by taking a feed from the main cable for your grow area and pay the normal usage on your house, how the fuck do you propose they find out!!! with some sort of space age fucking space ship, if you spend $250 or £250 a year on power, and they read your meter and the meter reads $250 or £250, how the fuck can they prove you are stealing it.

well idk about europe but i live in america and here, THEY CAN DO THAT. they have power boxes supplieing each individual zip code, sometimes 2 for a single code, that measures all power being pulled threough it into the surronding neighborhoods. if they have a prolonged case where the amount paid is not matching up with the amounts pulled, even for say $500, they will send inspectors to begin testing the wattage pull on all individual wires. eventually theyll narrow it down to the wire in your street, then inspect it and see where you have branched off to your grow area.
