yes its packed loosely on top of each other. it feels like the buds have more moisture to them... is this normal

acording to what i have been reading . placing the bud into the jar does just that . it evens out the moisture . so when you hang it it drys from the outside in . Then you cure and the moisture that is left in the middle spreads evenly and then it's gtg . I am newb and have never even done this yet but i have been into the books and on this sight none stop and i think this is how it works . I would be glad to have someone put me in my place or confirm .

exactly what you want, chasta has been reading the right books, just take the lid off until they aren't wet anymore put the lid back on checking periodicaly until its wet again then leave lid off. repeat as nesesary, until when you check it doesnt feel wet, then leave keep the lid on so it doesnt dry out, its a delicate, but worthy journy for the tastiest bud.

yes, you let them go spongy while the lid is closed, then you open them for a while let them go crispy, just keep repeating that over and over
before you put the buds in the jars, you can put them in a plastic food container with a humidity meter with lid closed you can watch the humidity fall as the bud dries this helps to get just the right amount of moisture left in the bud when drying before you start curing in glass :)

So should I burp them for a few hours a day? The branches snapped when i put them into the jars they just got so much moisture back

Just be patient.
its so difficult to remain patient.

I fill my jars about 7/8ths of the way full, and leave it loose, and leaves me a little room to gently rotate the buds from the top to the bottom. The jars that have bigger nugs I lay on their side to dry, it seems to dry them more evenly. If I leave them standing, the top of the nugs seem to dry faster than the bottom ones, especially when they are surrounded by the smaller nugs in the jar.

imo you should put bud into jar and everyday for 1-2 weeks pour bud out onto a table spread them out for 10 min then put back in jar in a different placement then before. after the 1-2 weeks of that you can pour them out and whatever once a week and eventually, (if you plan on long curing) once a month

yes i burp them for quite some time, it depends how much moisture is in the bud before you start curing , i keep my bud in that spongy state for long periods in the jars
i do not like it going fully crispy is the jars, i keep it so, when i take a nug out and leave it in the air it will be dry enough to crumble with the fingers in a few hours so their is a tiny amount of moisture in it keeping it fresh , after bud has been in jars for a few months if it goes too crispy in the jars drys out totally i find it harsh to smoke :)
