it's really sad, i used to know french and spanish on a native level when i was in high school. have had plenty of jobs working with people that only spoke spanish, haven't so much as spoken a word of french in the meantime though.

what's funny is that i learned french right after i learned spanish, so i would speak french with a spanish accent. it was the funniest thing my french teacher ever heard.

i still retain my french snobbishness, i correct people whenever they say "ooh la la" in the wrong context.

everyone I know who doesnt know french said it sounds like alot of ah, ey, frou frou sounds.

even now it throws me off when people speak in french, im a better reader and writer, but also, they speak way way way too fast. Im not fluent so I recognize words and phrases, however, i cant do fast conversations or understand when people speak fast

that is what every language sounds like to me until i learn it.

even then, it will sound like that until i actually practice speaking with natives.

I find Spanish frightening- because I tried to watch all the Spanish soap operas in Trinidad and the WOMEN- they speak at 100mph, I swear!

I think French varies from person to person or region. In La Rochelle everyone seemed to speak clearer. I had more trouble keeping up in uppermost Normandy however. The same goes for English. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND people from Liverpool.

lol excuse me if i am wrong, but i think american english is more easily understandable than english from the uk. though one can understand both if one knows english, the kind of english you guys speak over there sometimes throws me for a loop, almost as if its not english

That's why Navajo or Diné bizaad is one of the hardest languages in the world to learn. ;)
