Ok, so some girls and I got into an interesting discussion in our art history class. we all liked getting our nails done, but some said that guys they dated and girls they dated (yes, some were gay) thought they were trashy and ugly.
Your thoughts?
Lol personally I think its only trashy when they're super long and over done

Fucking stupid if you ask me. and well, if you really have to wear them, stop yapping about losing/breaking em! Fake nails, fake tan, fake hair, fake faces, fake tits, fake vagina's, what the hell is wrong with women! Have you no pride.

My lady does water marbling, check it out. Acrylics are shitty, like costume jewelry. Cheap and gaudy

I like acrylics because its a small form of self expression, and plus, I may get super vibrant colors and what not, but they are never long, and never too ostentatious. Some girls I know go way way way overboard, get nails so long and ornate that they cant do anything with them. I like it as functional beauty

My take on that is you really have to be scraping at the bottom of the barrel to be having to resort to fake nails as your form of expression. There are clothes and bracelets and belts and all manner of trinkets that do more than enough for womens self expression, they don't have to then go on and glue on some fake nails. Self expression is a good thing, but in doing so, if it makes you look like a skank, like trash, is that really the best way to go about your self expression?

I've been trying to get my girl to make up some business cards, but she's been slacking
Have her do that, she will make alot of money.

as for tip top toker, its hard to understand when you're a guy. People use their hands for everythig, people always see your hands. You can take off clothes, wear clothes that arent very nice or whatever, but when you get your nails done its not something you can take off or hide. therfore if you get them done well, they can compliment every part of you, like your outfit, your hair, your makeup

I don't even like nail polish.

As an artistic person, I appreciate nail art that's just done for the novelty or specifically as an art piece.

But I cannot stand artificiality. Weaves, wigs, plastic fucking nails? I understand makeup, especially if it just accentuates your features but fake nails are literally a panel of plastic glued over the too, completely obscuring your real ones. It's worse than breast implants to me, though I hate those too. I see it as a mark of materialism/ just reminds me of the ghetto hoes around here who don't care about anything apart from getting their nails done. Not even natural colors...

Don't get me wrong- I like clean, tidy, well-manicured nails. I like looking at pictures of nail art. But walking around daily wearing those plastic things like they're real... It make my skin crawl.

Not as much as weaves though. I feel a bit sick when I see a random braid on the street.

you think its bad where you're from? weaves here are done in myriad rainbow colors, neon green, pink, blue, etc, sometimes all on one head. i appreciate good weave, not cheap weave

Urca, it's hard to understand because you're not a guy, but us guys generally couldn't give two damns about a girls nails, i don't think we'de honestly notice, but when we do, and we see fake nails, we cringe. It seems to me, like with most women i've encountered, their "i'm not pretty enough" complex, generally just seems to derive not from i'm not pretty enough for him, but i'm not as pretty as her. Stop trying to outdo the other girls and jut do what makes you as an individual look good. And fake nails aren't the key. I as a guy perk up if i see a cute smile or a pretty pair of eyes or such, not by the girls nails.

back in my bartending days, i used to get uv gels done. the place i worked at had a bar that was a bit elevated from the rest of the place, kinda like a stage, and a lot of the house cocktails involved shaking and/or muddling and/or lighting stuff on fire so it was a double-edged sword - hellish on the hands, BUT they're on display all evening. but it was foodservice, so they were always short, square, no colours. uv gel was nice for that because it was glass-clear so you could see the ridges in your nailbed -- more like wearing a strengthening topcoat.

acrylics, on the other hand, i can't stand -- they look like press-on nails to me.

that water-marbling looks like fun, but i won't wear nail polish until i stop having to occasionally dig stuff out of my kid's mouth

nothing feels better than natural nails scratching my back while having crazy sex with my wife....... at one point she was getting acrylics and those things felt so weird, but hey thats just me...
