okay so.. flowering is coming along for my first t5 grow right now im using 4 6400k 54 watt bulbs and i was wondering if i should switch it up to 4 2700k 54 watt bulbs or do a half/half mix between the two. which one will produce more bud?

It is good to mix spectrum. I would recommend a 3:1 6500K:2700K for veg and the opposite for flower.

alright thanks for your advise. and another question.. im thinkin about getting a 250w hps instead of another t5 set up. do you think my yield would go up or down?

Adding more light generally adds to yield as long as everything else stays constant.

no no i ment instead of buying another 4 tube t5 light for a flowering site [i only have 1 t5 light right now and i wna harvest every 2 months not 4 months] how much of a difference do you think would be between 216 watts of t5s vs 250 watt hps?

Really depends on your set-up. Will you be able to deal with the heat? It has the possibility of increasing yields over another T5

i dont think i can deal with heat really :/ but i mean if the yield is going to be 1.5x more with hps ill try and deal with it.

bump this old thread...i'm curious too...i'm planning on going mixed spectrum the whole way through at a 3:1 ratio for light color temp--(i.e. during veg, 3 x 6500K : 1 x 2700K, and vice versa for flower)? I'm gonna have a mom under an LED/CFL setup big enough for her and her clones to establish but then my flowering room will be 400/600w HPS with 168/268w 6500K CFL...this sound good to those who know?
be easy

Yes - Go mixed specrtum at the 3:1 ratio you've been talking about, especially with CFL's.

I'm vegging under a 3:1 6500k & 2700k ratio @ about 150W/plant, I couldn't be happier about the results.

Flower, I broke down and got a 600W HPS ($182, to my door), because I wasn't all that happy with the density of my buds under CFL.

If you do go HID, a word of caution - Those lamps get fucking hot, so make sure they're secured properly(can't fall), and not near any combustible surfaces (drapes, paper etc).

Old post i stumbled across ! I'm currently in flower week 2 i have been running 2 250 watt HPS i've just added a 6500k T5 i use for vegging 1 week in and plant seems much happier her top leaves are pointing up (good sign she is happy) and growth has been cranking only in last week. Will post up later towards last few weeks of flowering ! Mixed spectrum seems to be the way !
