Should I harvest yet.

Just wondering if I should harvest this plant. It's been flowering since about the second week of August. I don't have a magnifying glass that's powerful enough to see the trich heads so I'm going by the pistil color. Under the hps I couldn't tell so I put it under regular light and there are plenty of reddish hairs. I might go get a better magnifying glass just to make sure. I just don't want to harvest too early if it still has some filling out to do.
The 1st and 3rd pic are of the main cola. The 2nd one is a side branch. I remember hearing that bud ripen from the bottom up and it looks like the main cola still has a little bit to go but that side branch looks done I think. The top of the main cola is still mostly white.

it looks ready enough. if your hard up chop it. I like to cut it when there's a few amber mostly cloudy and a few still clear. its a good stone for me that way. you can cut the bottom branches off and leave the main kola afew more days.

Looks like it's ready or close to it. If it's a strain I haven't grown before I like to harvest part of the plant and the rest a week later. I also test the smoke by snipping a sample and quick drying it.

you've got swelled flowers, browning pistils, two signs of a mature plant, good looking resin, give her 2 days of dark and chop I'd say :D

Thanks everyone. I have already cut some off and fast dried it about 2 weeks ago to try it. I think I'm going to go get a magnifying glass so I can check the color of the trichs. If there are some amber ones I think I will cut it down.

My buds always swell from top down.

I cut it down a bit and lowered the light. The lower branches hadn't fully developed yet but the upper branches and the main cola were ready. Drying them out now. So excited for it to be finished. And yes it is almost better than money. I appreciate it more now that I'm growing it myself.

its not about the hairs!!!

yes, the pistils turning dark is a good indication its getting there, but its all about the Trichomes.

i feel like ive posted this pic 3200 times in the last day. yes. the hairs are important, you want them to start getting dark, but they are not an indication of 'done'.
Trichomes. they mean everything.

Trich's are the tried and true method for determining ripeness, but with the combination of swollen calyxes and the pistils receding into them and trichome color you get a more accurate determination of when to harvest. Plant genetics are getting crossed all over the place creating resin glands that don't always follow the clear->milky/cloudy->amber route...some start off gold/amber, but with the combination of all 3 indicators you get a better overall observation :)
