you're more pedantic than i am .. congratulations. visible light. all better now? not sure what rotting wood has to do with the moon emitting no VISIBLE light.

The only things that would emit light, sorry VISIBLE light in our solar system without the sun would be Jupiter and possibly Saturn and some of their moons.
Sorry but your WRONG the sky is blue because blue light is a high energy photon, being absorbed and emitted over and over so that it comes from all angles from the sky to your eye, You see red sunsets because red is a lower a energy photon less easy to absorb, and travels through more atmosphere because of the low angle of the sun where the higher energy photons have been filtered out by being absorbed and emited in different directions. So please understand the moon does absorb and emit light. I could far more picky with what you have said, Hell you seem not to noted that the stars emit light. Nor do you seem to know what light is.
I was more than a bit drunk and high when I posted yesterday, though i'm always high when I post I seldom drink, exept when I have a very real need for sleep. Though I do party sometimes.

If you bother to read the post, what i said was if the SUN went out there are only a few objects in our solar system that would emit light. Sorry to burst your bubble but our Moon is not one of them. Correction - VISIBLE light as viewed by humans. Last I checked, the Sun was the only star in our solar system.

Please note: I know why the sky is blue and I know enough about light to understand when and why to differentiate it from energy which I recommend you consider.

i see.... and who were my verbal assaults directed too? ccodiane? lol

iloveyou

and if so, those were not verbal assaults... that was merely play with an old friend.. and I can totally see how you may have taken that out of context... but me and the DIANE have some history.... and ifyou new the history... or if you KNEW everything maybe you would not see things as you do.. maybe you are looking at the world through a role of toilet paper and have limited vision.. making your judgments and accusations a bit harsh and unwarranted... maybe all judgments and accusations are un warrented all the time.. UNLESS ONE is being self righteous and BELIEVES they kow better than others.. MAYBE one has to be on a HORSE or a LADDER to judge other peoples actions?

no need to be defensive.... or shall i say offensive..

The only history we have, "old friend", is the squabbling we partake in. Hold up, I just got a call from an "old friend", "Hey medicineman, how goes it?"

Last night without the sun I noted that within my house there were a number of things emitting light. Outside there was lightning and fireflys and the ocean has more fish that emit light than you could count. With out the sun in the way I think you mean than there wouldn't be eyes to see so there wouldn't be vision and therefore NO visible light at all. So you see that you are wrong, on mater which way you wish to see it.
So without eyes to see no light can be VISIBLE.

I meant exactly what I said and your post says nothing to counter it. It really is OK to admit you misunderstood me (you don't even have to admit you are wrong).

Read what I said and tell me why you think that I am wrong.

From your pik you don't look human and I see a screw loose in the back, please give GK a screwdriver so he can git behind you and screw you up tight as he likes to swing free sometimes.

Please explain why a photon isn't energy? Then why you think I don't differentiate it?

Because a photon contains energy it is not the same thing as energy. The container is not equal to the contents. You are not even arguing about what I am saying. You're telling me I'm wrong and then start talking about something completely different.

and thanks for the ad hominem - very classy.

I think I might see where the problem lies ... your arguments are assuming that the Earth would remain the same if the Sun went out - and my arguments are assuming what would happen if the Sun were no longer emitting any energy.

But you still through that red herring in there about the sun and everything emitting more than just visible light. But i was limiting my argument to visible light and my next post made that very clear.

I thank your hard drive went floppy. I didn't assume anything if the world changed as in the end of life, than as I said there would be no visible light at all, how could there be? Without a human to see than visible light could not be. I used both sides as you did not make it clear what you were talking about and I'm not sure you know eather as it still is not clear.

You think coming up with crap like the sun going out would make anything clear?

So your answer is a photon a container?

Does it have mass?

You didn't go back and read what I said eather. Hell I don't know what I said but you have yet to prove to me that you know what a photon is. Try again.

Not sure about the rest of your post but the Earth reflecting sunlight does not make it Earth rays. Just like the moon - no such thing as moon rays or moon light - merely reflected sunlight since neither the Earth nor the moon can produce light.

You are also forgetting that some of the sun rays that are reflected off the Earth's surface do get reflected back from our atmosphere and most especially from cloud cover. I won't pretend to know how this affects our climate but at least what i am describing is observable and not part of a model.
Read your words where you say the earth can't produce light.

You should think on this.
I was playing a bit, read what I said but YOU stated that the earth can't produce light. Do you really think this?

I agree I left out the all important "without the sun" clause.

What you should have left out was the knowing something about light.

As I stated a photon can be absorbed by the moon it also can be emited the act of being absorbed or assimilated makes it a part of the moon, being emited means the moon emits light, without the sun there are still the stars and this prossess still happens.

That aside you have the piezoelectric effect where some 20 types of crystals, quartz being the most abundant and is a common part of sandstone, limestone and granite and many other rocks be they igneous, metamorphic or sedimentary. When pressure is applied to these rocks it generates a voltage causing an electric field which gives off a corona [this corona is what breaks down transformers, capacitors and igniters or more truly the insulation.] which can be seen as it gives off photons in the range of 400nm----700nm. This effect has been noted at fault sites before earthquakes, this corona effect can and has been seen in daylight.

Pyroelectric effects are the same but are caused by heat not pressure.

Do you think that there is a lack heat or pressure in the earth?

Have you ever noted that volcanoes eruptions give off magma? Have you not noted that magma gives off light?
Do you think that mars has a volcano?

Do you know that plasma is all over space.

Do you think that I have more than just started on the ways that light can be produced without the sun?

While you may suspect some things about light I have yet to note that you know anything about it.

Well May it hurts to say this but you are right - I didn't know enough about light to make the absolute assertions I did. While I would have preferred an insult-free and less condescending education, I appreciate learning something through any means so I thank you. :joint:

The truth is you understand and will remember better because of the added crap, if you had read just the last post you would not given it much thought. You see you wanted to find me wrong, and the truth also is none of it was heart felt, it was just a way to make you work harder and impress it into your mind by making you think.

I expect no thanks but you are welcome.
