Very true i know GH nutes lack Cal/Mag...I rarely have to use it and i use RO water. Only once this year did i have a slight MG def in one of my plants. I think it comes down to the base nutes you use some just dont have enough trace elements in them, that and certain strains are more susceptible to cal/mag def. Lots of growers bang on about how you need it when growing in coco but ive never had issues.
A lot of growers look at Calmag as a remedy that is used only when a definciency is visible. I used to think that too, until I started growing OG Kush. With the OGK strain family, it's an absolute must. Even though your plants look fine, there could still be a deficiency that's not readily visible to the naked eye. Try using half or quarter strength regularly and see if you don't get improvement in finished bud quality.I rarely have to use it and i use RO water. Good job i dont grow kush then lol. Im wondering just how much of a difference it would make to the end product i mean if the plant displays no visable sign its lacking in cal/mag then surely any deficiency is minor to say the least. Ive got cal/mag so adding it is no big deal, gotta say my plants look healthy enough even come harvest time but im all for improving end product so i might add it this run and see if theres any difference.A lot of growers look at Calmag as a remedy that is used only when a definciency is visible. Ive used AN sensi for a good few years now and even AN say you wont need any cal/mag supplement even if you use RO water with this stuff. I aint no AN fanboy lol, out of alot of different nutes ive tried this has given me the best results. Im also trying plant magic nutes atm also and sofar so good, no cal/mag def.Very true i know GH nutes lack Cal/Mag...
Adavnced Nutrients as much as everyone hates on them is the best nutes for hydro, they are one if not the only company that tests their product on Cannabis. Call GH and ask them about using their nutes for cannabis and they will hang up on you. You're right you dont need cal/mag with AN nutes because they designed their nutes for Cannabis growers. Hate on them all you want but their products are good and you can call them and they will talk to you about using their product for cannabis hell they even have the research to back it up.Ive used AN sensi for a good few years now and even AN say you wont need any cal/mag supplement even if you use RO water with this stuff. I'm using AN Sensi right now as well, switched from GH after seven grows with it. Like the performance of AN Sensi so far.Good job i dont grow kush then lol. I liked what you said about AN customer support vs. GH. "Hello, General Hydroponics customer support, how can I help you?.... m-m-marijuana? What's that?" And no I dont use AN nutes currently I am using House and Garden Cocos
I grew some OG #18 last grow and you aint lying dude OG is a weird strain and different from anything else I grew. My root balls were always smaller and OG liked her PPM on the low side.I'm using AN Sensi right now as well, switched from GH after seven grows with it. Like the performance of AN Sensi so far.
If your plants look fine, then you're prolly doing fine. But after lots of experience making the plants come out 'just fine,' there's a time when we must look beyond the plant simply looking fine.
I've grown plenty of plants that looked fine and healthy, but I subject my finished bud to the scrutiny of local shop managers. They're used to dealing with many skilled local growers, so there is a bit of pressure when they take one of my nugs and hold it under the magnifying light ring. Most of these guys are knowledgeable, but I take the shops with super bomb OG on their shelves more seriously. Even with OG plants that grew fine and healthy to my naked eye, room for improvement is usually found. These fuckers have some incredibly high standards. This really helps me to put things into perspective. There's nothing more humbling than thinking you grew the best bomb, only to find a jar of superior bud on the shelf of the shop. Of course, this has worked in reverse for me many times, too... where my bud is the better than the best in the house.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that a lot of growers fall in love with their hard work and go around thinking it's the best bud in the world. To the grower who is enjoying his own harvest, it IS the best bud in the world. But when you take it out to the real world (the dispensary culture), you see just where your 'best bud in the world' ranks.

So all the nutrient companies except Advanced are involved in this vast conspiracy to hide the fact their products are intended for marijuana cultivation? No, of course not. These are horticultural growing nutrients. They exist to service any grower of any plant... and marijuana happens to be just that...a plant. The federal government cannot shut down a company because their product works in the cultivation of cannabis. That's like the feds going after all the various solvent manufacturers who make the chemicals needed for meth cooking. You do realize that just because other nutes dont advertise that they are formulated for marijuana specifically doesn't mean that they dont. AN is just one of the only companies stupid enough to advertise it. By law anything that helps fascilitate the growth of marijuana knowingly is illegal in the US. Why do you think that most hydro shops(even in legal states) openly state that if inquiring about marijuana they will ask you to leave? The reason is because the feds will shut them down and cease their shit just for helping with anything drug related. They've had quite a few BIG busts just for that purpose

And regardless of how AN markets itself, it's not like their nutrients work only on cannabis and no other plant. I think AN's marketing approach is shrewd. They've separated themselves by openly stating their mixes are formulated for cannabis... But they cannot be prosecuted for this because their ingredients don't contain anything that separates it from the "non-cannabis" nutrients. And AN nutes will indeed make any plant grow, not just cannabis. After having switched to AN from GH, I've found that the mixing process is much more straight forward. You don't need a Lucas formula with AN.
Edit:
And it's been my experience that Grow shop personnel have very little between the ears. They don't know much about growing cannabis or anything else.
I've said that exact thing many times when someone here posts, "The guy at the hydro shop said..."I really wanted to respond but you summed it enough. A lot of people just really hate Advanced Nutrients..
And yes most grow shop employees dont know shit.I guarantee you that 75% of RIU members know more than hydro shop employees.
Do a city report of your town's water before you make any decisions there is a lot of different chemicals in your cities tap water depending on where you live.RO with CalMag+
Tap water ppm is 270
I'm considering going to tap water with no CalMag after reading this thread and one other today. The other thread was in the hydro forum and said that even the chlorine content of most city water is fine for MJ too. I'll post a link.
Now, I'll use tap water and no CalMag on half my plants. The other half (Headband), I'll keep adding a bit of CalMag. Cheers!
OMG. Why would you do such a backwards thing? People use tap water because 1) They don't know any better 2) They can't afford a filter 3) They like playing guessing games with their plants.RO with CalMag+

I talk about Cannabis in stores most places are cool if your show them your MMJ card they are like "cool lets chop it up". People really hate on Advanced Nutrients ( I used to be one of them) because of their outrageous prices and over plugging they give away and print Rosebud magazines by the millions and every page is a diss to GH or other nutrient companies or its a (Raptor Hood made by AN) or that bull taking a shit on the GH logo... After I did my research they seem to be a good company and they must make good nutrients because a lot of people use them and hell they have the research to back it up and they arent afraid to talk cannabis.I've said that exact thing many times when someone here posts, "The guy at the hydro shop said..."
I don't see what all the Advanced Nutrients hating is all about. Pretty stupid if you ask me.
Edit:
I walked right up to the guy at the Hydro shop counter and asked loudly, "Where to you guys keep the AN Sensi?" He pointed to where they keep their stock of the only marijuana growing nutrient in the entire place. Why would they carry such a nefarious product intended for such illegal activities? I never say anything about marijuana, but I do go on about height control, odor, node spacing, calyx and trichome structure... "Is this guy talking about tomatoes?" I've never been asked to leave.
