"self-defense" means that you are coming from a place of lack/ weakness brother. The notion that anything 'real' could be taken away from a son of 'all' is absurd. Well said Enigma, I'm right there with you! The problem with these conversations is that they rely on 'what if' scenarios. Reality is only here and now, the past is nothing more then moments of 'here and now' not let go off. It's 'here and now', always has been, always will be, the only truth!
Would I lay down and die? I really don't k now what I would do but I certainly wouldn't get a gun if my intentions were a peaceful outcome.
Brother, if we tried to control all the possibilities of physical harm before they occurred, we would never leave the bed. We need to deal with things in the moment, the only sane option!

Hear hear, justice comes in a one size brush, but not really. What you are really protecting your family from is your own fears, just keep that clear. A person does not need to be shoot for walking in to someone else's house. Would you give yourself the time to consider circumstances before shooting the teenager under such enormous pressure or would the old 'shoot first, ask questions later' modus kick in?! What does a sick person have to do before he deserves to die on your scale of justice. There are probably things that I have done in my early youth that you would have shoot me for, according to what I'm reading. That would be ok too, I guess. I'm more concerned though about the missed potential for us to grow into what we can be! I actually care about you because I know the ways in which we are connected, and I know that I need all of us to grow up in order to bring an end to the chosen suffering we endure.

This is a good idea, if you have the kind of place that can accommodate a larger sized dog, and like them. It not only prevents break ins, but discourages snooping and helps to let you know when someone is lurking about (which a gun under your mattress can't do.)

I'd say (in no particular order: ) huskies, German shepherds, Norwegian elk-hounds, Akitas, all make good watch-dogs while still being excellent pets. (In fact, some of these make such damn good watch dogs that you'll wish they had an off switch! Elk-hounds in particular have a piercing bark that carries. )

Great Danes are awesome, but too damn big. Bulldogs can be good guard dogs, and make hilariously fun pets, but are also a mess and tend towards poor health. Rotts, pits and dobies freak me out; not my style.

Some of us know what measures are needed for protection. Some conceal their op.. some don't saw a word to anyone.. some protect themselves physically.. because violence is a very powerful tool.. it is how EVERY country is run. Without violence their would no government, no nations, no control.

Maybe you could let someone break in, kill your kids, rape your wife while you watch, steal your shit and kill you.

For me, they come in I get up and grab the pump.. if they don't leave after they hear that I know they are "in it to win it".. and they will lose.

I'm conflicted about gun control, but the whole "guns don't kill people" line has always struck me as the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

i got a marlin 17mm rifle a month ago. Anyone looking into buying a rifle should check it out. I can shoot a ground hog in the head from a 100 yards and it has no recoil. It ran me like 475 bucks with the scope but it's def worth it, nicest gun i own fo sho

you should tell police officers to disarm and preach them your word! some peoples reality is bright, nice, warm, comforting places, while others live in a dark, violent, and cold hard world!! these people do have fears and they have good reason for it. heres a good analogy- swimming with sharks when you have bait attached to you! the sharks are the bad people and the bait is the possessions that bad people want from you/your house!

until we fulfill everyones want/needs there will always be greed!
