i have one and wouldnt ya know they shut me off for non payment and it was in the middle of the night, remotely via wifi. WTF!?!

I refused to accept one. You do not have to here. I do not want a meter that transmits my usage every minute of the day. That is just more than they need to know. :peace:

Are you in MI? If I would've known what it was I would've tried to refuse it too... Probably too late to call them and tell them to switch it back.

No I'm far from MI but it's worth a try to ask for your old one. Dunno about the regulations there.
You have to give them permission to install it here.

I've been worried about Smart Meters for a few years. I find it odd that Oakland County is getting them first. Hmmmm...lotta potential there. I read on Yahoo news that we can refuse them and pay an extra $30 a month for the meter reader to come out and read the old fashioned kind, which is what I intend to do.

Smart Meters are a handy tool to help you analyze your energy consumption and perhaps make your consumption more efficient.

When we get our electric bill, there is a graph that shows our consumption by month and day. I can call the utility company and they will send me other graphs by the hour or minute.

I can look at these graphs and tell when electrical devices like my heating /cooling system, stove, or washer and dryer start up, for how long they run, and how many watts they use.

I can also see the same info as it applies to my grow lights, fans, and pumps.

I am aware that I am not the only person who can see this, but I have no reason to be paranoid as long as I stay within the limits of my state MMJ laws.

Exactly, If you pay your bill on time you have nothing to worry about, Electric companys love growers;)
