Newbie need some expert help!

Ok so here it is. I've been waiting for like a year now to start my first grow. First off just to say I will be growing 3 to 4 plants in 2 stacked 45 gallon rubbermaid tubs in my attic. I live in mississippi and we have hot summers and cold winters. I know the trouble with those tubs because of heat ect. So i decided to wait till it cooled off and *it just turned fall a couple of days ago and the temps are already in the 40's at night mid 70 during the day. So here's the question. It's cold at night and I was going to just use cfl's but I found a hps and mh bulbs at lowes today. So I thought when it's cold at night that is when I'll have my lights on and I could use one of the hps or mh bulbs since they put off alot of heat to help warm up my grow box. So would this be a good idea? And I planned on doing 12/12 from seed and lowes had a 400 watt hps and and 130 watt mh. Which one should I get and I am also going to use cfl's too. Finally one more question, could I use one of those clip on light fixtures with the reflector for the hps or mh bulb? Much advise is greatly appreciated*

mh and hps bulbs need a ballast. they wont work in standard fixtures.

You could try a water bed/aquarium/seed starter heating pad under your Rubbermaid container. Just make sure it doesn't get hot enough to melt the container and you wont likely need it on while the lights are on, if its adjustable that will be a bonus in helping you control the temps even better when the lights are on or off. I would say a space heater up in the attic but depending on the size of you attic that could require a pretty big one and be expensive to operate.

Thanks bro what if I got a small heater and placed it in front of the intake fan so it will blow heat into the box? Or would that be to much heat?

It could work, your probably going to have to do a trial and error process no matter what method you try. Stick ya a thermometer in your grow box and just start experimenting.
