in a 6.5' room how tall should I veg the plants till I flip to flower?

Tomorrow I get clones. 5 pineapple express that I've been told is a short fat Indica dominant plant. I'm going to try to grow 5 Skywalker in the same room which is a taller , stretchier sativa dominant plant.

I want the plants to be manageable since I'm growing in a 4' x 4' x 6.5' space. Can you tell me how tall the plants should be before I flip them to 12/12? I'm thinking 12-18 inches with the idea that they might double in size. What do you think?

yeah 18" should be doable, expect double to triple in height, and you can always LST them down a bit

Like he said, double to triple...Sativa, triple!! Start your LST NOW, you won't regret it! You can use insulated copper wire that is bendable and wont strangulate the stems, you can also use fishing weights with fishing line, and around the stem use a bread tie, tied loosely to the stem and fishing line tied to that. I have some pics on the fishing line with weights in my signature! I would say 12" MAX for the sativa, you have to think about your light heights also that is going to take away from your overall overhead!

with that many plants it will be a full house i recomend start the indicas in flower first then the sativas later on. you will need all the space possable for the sativas. jmo

I was hoping to grow 9 or 10 small plants...the grow store guy told me that with 16 square feet on the floor and each pot taking up 1 square foot that I can easily do 3 rows of 3...I was going to grow the 10th plant to replace one if it wasn't working out. This is all new territory. Maybe I should have thought about it more growing 5 sativa dominant with 5 indica dominant. I just wanted variety. I've asked other places and it seems that it can work. Using Sea of Green ideas it would seem even more plants than that could fit in this space. This is my first time doing anything like this, so I'm hoping to learn as I grow. If I need to employ techniques to keep the plants small or next time grow less I will. I just hope my project isn't doomed based on what you say: Full house, do indicas, then do sativa.

9 plants is perf for the 4x4 its what i run too. the diferent strains are harder due to how they grow, indicas will be shorter n bushy n finish about 63 days depending, sativas are fast growing high stretch plants that will overtake the indicas given a chance, n will take 80 days +/- to finish. personally i only flower one type at a time in the same area. you can do it if growing in soil or bubble buckets, but i run hydro undercurrent set up which makes it impossable. flip the switch n learn brother its the only way really, just do it!!! you will be fine n by the time this run is finished you will be so much better, that i promise good luck!!! hollar if i can help.

I'm trying a beginner Coco Coir and perlite set up--basically poor man's hydro. The funny thing is I've already spent over $1700, I'm not sure why I didn't just buy a real hydroponic solution--maybe next time.

You spent $1700 already, what all did you buy? I spent close to a stack on my setup and that includes the nutrients

For 1700 dollars I'm including clones, nutrients, 16 10L pots, coco, 6" carbon filter, 6" exhaust fan" 600w HPS, reflector, ballast, 4' x 4' x 6.5' grow tent, 3-5 gallon water jugs, water pump, thermometer. Includes $200 I spent on Installation because it took me an another guy several hours to put it together.

That isn't comprehensive, but the jist.

planehoper, nothing wrong wit getting good equipment to start bro. too mant people poorboy it togeather just to get through a harvest n blame their failure on everything but the fact they did not plan it out. my moto..fail to plan, plan to fail...mastiffkush this is not refering to you in any way so please don take it that way, just stating my opinion
phoper sounds like you researched n planned for your grow. now all you have to do is do it... you will learn tons in your first couple grows... the goal at first is to get to the finish line lol then forward...luck n the offer will alwas stand for help if i can... peace
