i haven't ordered seeds in over a year because of the ssn requirement for prepaid credit cards (if you want to register it to use online). a law that was made possible by the patriot act's agenda of "making it more difficult to launder money". the patriot act can go fuck itself. like i need another reason to have my personal information on yet ANOTHER company's poorly secured server. having that much personal information floating through corperations that are often based overseas is INSANELY short sighted. if i had a kid no way in hell would i let them use their ssn to use some stupid fucking gift card.
My mortgage Companys call centers are in India and the Phillipines
They always ask for the last 4 of your social security number
If you know the date of Birth and the Place of Birth its easy to get the rest

And I feel thats total Bullshit

So, fuck the PA because you can't order something in order to commit what is considered a felony? Oh, ok, that makes total sense

no, fuck the pa for having an overzealous agenda. it's not just about buying seeds. if i want to use that card to buy anything at all overseas or online i have to register it with a ssn to be stored on a server in some third world country, or to be passed from employee to employee to run inside scams. it's a really fucked up requirement for a simple gift card. gift cards used to be a safe way to make purchases where if it got stolen the only thing the theif would have access to is the balance on the card. now in addition to the fees i have to pay for this luxury i now have to give up personal information which is often stored and used outside of the country and outside the protections of the constitution. you're ok with that? seriously?

I order seeds from attitude all the time no prob without social security number digit giving-out, best thing just have someone else order it if you can. but for me its not illegal locally though, one of the few medical states it actually is legal in as far as locally(seed selling and buying), I can stop in a grow shop and just buy name brand seeds but I order them cause its usually cheaper and more choice as most shops only have a few breeders. I use mostly clones anyway, all you really need is one good strain and from seed is always a dice roll, but without seeds you can never find the true gems.

How is your info automatically going to go through a third world country? And what does the constitution have to do with any of this?

I'm fine with it because I'm not paranoid. I think you just have an ill-defined chip on your shoulder. I think your inarticulate position is one formed from filling your head with BS rhetoric day in and day out.

Sorry you feel the need to order things from third world countries, it sounds like a bad idea in the first place. But congrats on blowing things out of proportion.

The honest truth here going back to the OP is the Patriot act was never needed since the information before was still being gathered. It was just done illegally.
Now that they have made it legal they can just twist it's mission from Terrorism to Drug trafficking or whatever and use the evidence in court

before they would just tap your phone illegally then bust you when they knew you were about to do something illegal and claim a anonymous informant told them you would be there

Echelon was in place, true. But now the PA just cut out the middle man. Furthermore, in regards to this forum, its members, and 99.99% of Americans, the PA doesn't really affect them in any way. The fact of the matter is that our security services are looking for REAL terrorists - not weed growing Ru Paul, sorry, Ron Paul supporters. Freedom of speach is still alive and well in the US, as evidenced by the numerous jack-asses on this forum, and others.

They look for terrorists based off of the actions they are taking, not what they are saying. It's not a simple "they said something we don't agree with, get him!" and the person goes to a secret prison (even though that seems to be the fantasy many share). It's more about what they know the person is saying, buying, doing, travelling, etc...There have to be real steps taken before "they" would even begin actively investigating someone.

The Patriot Act coordinates the police agencies so they all have the same information and cooperate with one another. One of the reasons the hijackers got away with the 9-11 attacks was because each police agency, from your local city police department to the FBI, not being on the same page and/or jealously guarding their information. In my estimation, this part of the Patriot Act is a good thing.

i don't know if you're trying to be cute or if you really don't get it. allow me to spell it out for anyone who may have been mislead by your apparently deliberate attempt to discredit my concern.

1. i procure card
2. i call phone number to activate card.
3. i give them my ssn. maybe they are located in kansas. it's irrelevant.
4....???? do you know what they do with it? i don't, and you don't either. what i DO know is every job i've ever had in a call center had at least a handful of scams each year uncovered in that center alone. stolen cc info, stolen ssn, general harassment of customers who rubbed someone the wrong way, etc. once you say the info out loud to them they can just write it down, record it for later, whatever. do people really think there are cameras and wardens everywere watching these people? lol. $10/hr human toilets don't give two shits about your personal info.
5. many (not all) of these gift card activation centers are located overseas. this means:
in addition to another random stranger having mere access to my info, they are now free to use this info in a country that does not have the same safeguards in place as the country who forced me to give up the info (my own). do you think my federal government is going to pursue that case? and how much say does my government have over how someplace in india stores their files?

explain to me why i should be subjected to all this so my neice can order a fucking cd online (from an AMERICAN BASED company). i'm not establishing credit, i'm not applying for a job, i'm not subscribing to utilities or renting a house or opening a bank account or doing anything else that requires proof of id. i'm simply trying to go shopping with my own money. do you think i should have to give up my ssn to spend cash?

Just wondering...why only use Prepaid cards? Especially for something like buying CD's online...

You keep changing the premise of your argument, but refuse to give up the pre-paid card thing. I don't get it, especially if you already have hesitations about the institutions themselves.

If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to hide - use a REAL card. Otherwise, you can keep being pissed off about a self-imposed situation.

you, sir, make me frown. i don't like to use my real card for all the same reasons i don't like to give up my ssn. i don't know what else to say on the subject.

ND,

First of all, the kid was 14. Second of all, he was with a "friend" that had already opened fire and KILLED a federal agent. Third, Sammy had already alerted Randy to the presence of either a "large animal or a man" before all three (including the dog) went BACK out to the woods. Fourth, Sammy shot at a federal agent for killing the dog.

Under no circumstances should that kid have been out there. Randy SHOULD have just gone to court and faced the music instead of putting his entire family at risk. How you can make excuses for atrocious stupidity is beyond me...
Ohh, you are right, 14, a big full grown man? Name all the federal agents that were killed at ruby ridge please. Kevin Harris never killed a single person, ever. You are misinformed and since you have the facts wrong your points are null and void.

The government already admitted and gave millions of dollars to the Weavers for the WRONGFUL deaths of Sammy and his mother. Wrongful, not justified.

Harris then Sammy, came out of the woods. DUSM Degan challenged Harris, who turned and shot Degan dead without Degan firing a single shot. Roderick then shot the dog once, Sammy fired at Roderick twice, and Roderick fired once again. Roderick and Cooper heard multiple gunshots from the Weaver party.

the federal government awarded Randy Weaver a $100,000 settlement and his three daughters $1 million each in August 1995. In the out-of-court settlement the government did not admit to any wrong-doing in the deaths of Sammy and Vicki Weaver

I think that the American perception of its policies are so badly manipulated that items like the PA are NECESSARY.

We needed something that clearly states that domestic terrorists will be pursued. Terrorism is generational, thus, there are people here that could be "American Citizens" yet are planning to do harm to the country.

You can all start in and start hemming and hawing...but your rhetoric doesn't change a damn thing: We still have the highest degree of freedom, liberty, and safety in the world. And, so many of you here can still grow your weed in peace, even if the govt may even be able to bust you because they already know who you are and what you are doing. But they don't, because the reality is that it's just not worth it - there are REAL terrorists out there, and they want to find them, not fuck with paranoid stoners.

The REALITY is it is not yet profitable for them to bust small-time growers.

No federal terrorism unit is going to concern themselves with small growers. Ever.

Local LEA's...of course, they love attention and headlines.

And the income that comes from seized assets.

Feeling kinda persecuted. But it started slow for other persecuted populations too.

"Dukeanthony" you are very flawed in your understanding of the patriot act. Check your facts. Obama hasn't "thrown out" any of its contents regarding illegal uses, acts or measures. It was just re-instated (before it expired) a few months ago w/o any alterations. And having the attitude of "well I have nothing to worry about, doesn't effect me etc. is so wrong on so many levels. Typical lib rhetoric. Another internet scholar.
