I wouldnt tear off the rockwool that gives the roots more room to expand into the hydroton I fucked up myself because I just planted my steam into the hydroton with nothing else and the roots just went straight down Im getting rooter plugs to start them from clone then plant them in the hydroton so they can twirl around the hydroton starting from the rooter plug.

the rockwool is heavy and therefore indicates it is full of water and nutes. part of my problem according to lordjin is that my clones were probably waterlogged and therefore unable to absorb nutrients. I've had these clones for about a month and one is 2 ft tall but several are barely 6 inches tall. Jin thinks the rockwool is too thick for young roots to penetrate. also, I didn't know I needed to aerate my reservoir and still haven't remedied this issue.... baby steps...

Funny, some other guy had waterlogged rockwoold cubes too. His problem was that he buried his cubes almost completely in hydroton without removing the white plastic, so the watter just accumulated in the rockwool and caused major algae to form at the surface of his exposed cube. His plants were showing some of the same symptoms as yours.
Give the rockwool a squeeze periodically. Is it saturated most of the time? Ideally it needs to be moist but not soaking wet. When you pick up the air pump, it should help stimulate things somewhat during flood/drain time, but be sure those big blocks aren't soaking wet. Let 'em dry out a bit if they are.

I have set them on top of the hydroton to help eliminate the saturation. They should be able to wick up the moisture they need but not be too saturated. I left the wrapping on to keep light away from the roots but now I'm questioning that after LordJin's post... hmmmm this shit is tricky, boy.... tricky. and algae likes to grow on the exposed surfaces of the cube so that's another reason I kept them covered.
I trimmed the leaves and took some pics. I see healthy new growth at the apical meristem of all of the plants. I cut the yellowing leaves to try and see if I'm accumulating new stress or if the plants are healthy. pics coming up.

Something is not going right those girls look upset. What are you doing? They are either lacking food or overfeed when they are drooping like that. Do you check your PH? Is there any nutes your feeding them it maybe to much is the fan too high and close the look wind burn too. You have to take action fast if you want to keep them alive because once the leaves are dead you cannot fix them once you figure out the problem. Good luck.

i bought a digital pH meter but forgot the calibration fluid. my liquid pH tells me I'm in the 5s. the digital pH meter says 6.4. I trust the liquid test kit even tho its ballpark. I water for one hour 2x day but am backing off to i time per day. I strengthened my nutes but do'nt have a ppm meter yet. the fans are on high but not close to the plants ( 5 ft away) and are merely causing them to quiver slightly. I cut off all of the dead or crispy or curled or yellowed leaves. I'm thinking the rockwool is water logged so I pick em up and give them a squeeze to get some air into the cubes. I am spraying them with a foliar spray several times per day because I am concerned that the roots are not taking up the nutrients as well as I hoped. all the roots I DO see are white and healthy tho. I need an airstone for my res and I'm getting that tonight. I think they look ok but the leaves are not horizontal to optimize the light absorption. they are mostly hanging down slightly on the skywalkers, even on the healthy 2 ft tall giant that seems happy. I'm thinking that this is just the morphology of this strain. the Diablos are different. I have two that are about 15" tall with horizontal leaves and the rest are obviously stunted. I'm going to try letting them dry out for 23 hours and see if that helps. I had to raise the light because my tall one is about to touch it, even tho I topped her.

You're welcome to my spare air pumps of course, but I don't think that's going to be a cure-all, rather just something to help along the oxygen activity of your floods.
The thing is, my experience has been developed through a rather different method of hydro application. What you need is an experienced ebb/flow type to tell you exactly what to do. I can only give instruction on a broader conceptual understanding of hydroponic principles.
example: I know that the oxygen delivery in an ebb and flow has everything to do with that air-pulling effect that occurs with the action of the drain. In my system, oxygen is being delivered to the roots and solution constantly at 45 liters per minute via a small commercial grade pump. I have had no direct experience with ebb/flow.
I'll start asking ebb/flow people I've talked to here to take a look. They'll probably have more pertinent information for you.

I think the problems have to do with the waterlogging, which is resolving itself. that and I didn't know I needed to presoak the rockwool. if I had it to do over I would skip the rockwool altogether. can you ask sudynim to post a photo of his pots and describe the contents? I'm thinking I'd prefer to copy his system.

Im no vet but I def been at that point before, Im just saying the issues that I had done to myself I wouldnt give advice that IDK or havent been thru but if ya do some research and listen, you will def be successful.
