Hey I'm new hydropinics but I'm setting one up for the first time. So far I have a plastic huge bin with 5 pot holes cut out where I'm going to place the pots with holes in it....and I have an aerator and powerhead for the water flow and I didn't really know how high the water should be like I heard an inch past the bottom of where the pots hang? And can I just use basic gravel from home depot is what I got would that work? And my final question is what is the best nutrients for growing hydroponics in the water I just used MG when I do soil but I'm a noob so I'm just asking? Let me know I think I got most of it figured out except for some of those, thanks.

The water needs to come up to the bottom of the roots, if using rockwool take care not to keep it too wet. The thing about using different mediums is they each have their own PH and effect the water. I use hydron clay pellets and it works great for me. There are a ton of different NPK combo foods geared toward hydroponics. It all boils down in the long runs to what you want to spend out the gate and what you except out of your grow op.

to keep it simple i would not use gravel at all, you could get a tiny bag of hydroton to run your system for a while (especially DWC as you use much less of it), hydroton is a more sterile medium that wont mess with your ph very much, also whatever meduim you use cant be to heavy and jagged as this will cause root damage. as for furts, i would stick with a single part base nutrient with no additives untill you really get the hang of it, gh flora nova is a single part i have used and worked well for years, many other companies make simular nutrients.

no you will drown the little thing, seedlings do not need allot of water because they have no real root establishment, think damp not soaked, just put the water level to about 1/2-1" below the net pot and the bubbles will create enough moisture in the medium to keep it alive until the roots get to the water, then the level is not so important.
