FIAT money aka .a piece of paper, taken on faith that it will be honored to purchase something real.

or just over 3/4 of a troy ounce of silver, therefore you should be able to buy 3/4 of a $40 an ounce of silver, therefore 1 dollar is = to approx $30 in FIAT money.

Now go try and get your 3/4 troy ounce of silver for 1 dollar and see what happens

Also, with gold being $1500 plus, the worth of silver should be $100 plus, therefor you should be able to get $75 of silver for 1 dollar.

A crutch for my joint.

You could also call it a unit of account.
Bingo! We have a winner, and its no surprise that the winner is NoDrama.

Yep, a dollar is term of measurement, not unlike a "pint," a "quart," or a "gallon." So the next time you shop and the clerk says: "That will be ten dollars, please." Your response should be: "Ten dollars of what?"

There is no difference between a clerk saying: "That will be ten dollars," or "That will be ten pints." If the clerk said ten pints, wouldn't the response be "Ten pints of what?"

In our convoluted and brain-washed society, we just assume that a "dollar" is a Federal Reserve Note." So when the clerk says: "That will be ten dollars please," what she's really asking for is ten paper coupons redeemable in nothing but another ten paper coupons.

Actually you are incorrect a Dollar is:

A french motorcycle : The origins of the Dollar marque date back to 1850

Musical duo from the UK : First single released in 1978

A small town in Scotland : much older than the "US dollar" founded prior to 874 AD

and every answer above, like I said it was just the answer you were looking for, not the only correct answer.

If you are going to ask a question either read up on all possible answers (as in become the learned one you talk about) or ask a more specific question.

I and others who answered here do appreciate you making this thread to show our learned "ness"................ lol .......... whilst admitting your need to read more.
