Smart pots, smart price!

Check this out: http://i52.tinypic.com/25s4ot3.jpg All they are are reusable shopping bags from the dollar store. A 5 gallon smart pot is $6, a 5 gallon bucket is about three - these are only $1!!! They are made really good - don't seem like they are going to rip, handles stay on even after filled with wet dirt, and they have a little insert that helps them hold their shape. I just can't get over how damn good they are - only downside is that I think they only come in the 5 gallon size. You could try to fill them less full, but they'd be short and fat, not tall and skinny. Thinking maybe a bag, part way up the base would keep them from dripping everywhere?

they are white. pots are dark in color to block light from getting to the roots
They come in dark green too. Regardless, the dirt will block the light a couple mm in, and the roots quit growing anyway once they reach the edge of the pot.

I've seen some really impressive shopping bag grows. Even shopping bags used in flood tables. Pretty much any plastic fabric container will work. Most brands of the fabric pots are made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. Same material as those shopping bags. And the shopping bags come in black too. I'm pretty sure every grocery store sells their own bag with their own color on them.

The roots quit growing at the sides of the pot because of light pruning, which will stunt the plants growth. Otherwise roots go to the sides and then down to the bottom of a NORMAL pot. But in SMART pots, roots go to the sides and then branch off into more roots because of increased oxygen.Thats why they work so well. Air good, light bad. I learned that in kindergarden.Only a retard would say that light has no affect on roots.
