Tent heat problems!! need help

Hey fellas,

i have a 2x2x5 grow tent w/ a 250 watt hps light n the temperature around 85 degrees.
i have a 4in can fan HO for exhaust connected to a 200 cfm phresh filter. im useing a 4in squirrel cage blower for intake. how do i lower the temperature

1) Where inside the tent is your thermometer located when it says 85F?
2) What are the temps outside the tent near the intake?

The thermometer is at the canopy, on top of the screen for my scrog grow.
The temperature outside near intake duct is around 88 degrees

Measuring temperature at the canopy, which I realize is what everyone recommends for whatever reason, is inaccurate. Your thermometer is being affected by the radiant temps from the hot-ass lamp, which is useful to know about but grow guides citing max 85F are talking about ambient air temps and not radiant. Take you temps from inside the shade for a more accurate reading of air temperature.

That aside, there is no air conditioner in your tent so you can't take warm air and cool it. Your intake temps are too high. The solution to your heating issue will be to lower your intake temperature, either by cooling it or taking the intake from a cooler source via some ducting.

OK, well at that distance your temp reading is still being affected by radiant heat from the bulb.

But that's not really of much help to you here, you need to fix your intake temps and the tent temperatures will follow.

My setup is in my closet so I dont really have access to cooler air, unless I run 15 feet of ducting to my window =/

my temps are at 85 with lights on and 80 with light soff and my plants are doing great... as long as your water temps are around 65-70 you're fine...

i was thinking of using co2 foliage spray, ive read that co2 helps plants withstand 85 degree temperature

exhausted air is being blown out of the closet at the top of tent.. the intake air is being sucked through at the bottom outside of the closet

Well, guess you need to figure out how to get that intake cooler then.

another thing if your water temps are too high ad 1part hydrogen peroxide to 10 parts water... the higher the temps the lower the oxygen in your water... but I've never heard of using more co2 if the temps are higher, I wouldn't think that would help any cause you don't want your co2 levels too high.

I'm lucky enough to have a floor register close to my tent so I can duct some of the ac into my tent...works like a charm...my 4" squirrel cage pulls most of the 'makeup' air from my crawl space and I run my lights only at night...

get some dry ice and put it as close to the intake vent as possible. you get CO2 and lower temps. since your egress just vents to the closet, it's warming the air at the ingress as well. It's not a permanent solution but it should help til you find something for your setup.

Is your hood air cooled? All your heat is coming from your light so an air cooled hood makes a huge difference. I have a similar setup and can keep a 400w going.

nah mann just got the econ bat wing hood.. cant afford the cooltube. =/
plus i feel that the 4in can fan will lose alot more cfm. I barely feel any suction through the carbon filter.
