A kid was hit by a car while he, his mom, and two siblings were trying to cross the street. The driver was drunk, and had already taken painkillers as well. The little boy ran out into the street, the mom followed him to stop him, boy gets hit and dies.
The drunk driver gets 6 months of jail. This woman gets slapped with Vechicular homicide and child endangerment, gets three years. Wtf is up with that picture?

US laws at their best...

In the mid west, there was a case that made local papers. 22 year old babysitter girl, babysits 12 year old boy (why a 12 year old needs a babysitter, is beyond me...) Well, they have sex, and they send the girl to prison on sex charges, and she also got pregnant.

The boy is responsible for paying child support. If he was "raped", why should he have to pay child support?

As for the OP:

From what I've read, she tried to cross. This was at night and she didn't try crossing at a crosswalk. So the reality is she did an irresponsible thing and it got her son killed. Even though it happened with a drunk driver it could have happened with anyone, and he served his time.

I still think it's fucked up though, the death of her kid should be enough punishment.

the crosswalk was 8 blocks away... would you walk 8 blocks at night in an unsafe neighborhood just to you could get a cross walk, then walk 8 blocks back? she had three kids with her. :(

She faces three years. Though she will probably not get much of a sentence, and serve even less of it. The driver had "a little alcohol earlier the day of the accident." The mother apparently had a couple priors herself. Some facts appear to be missing in this thread. Things really don't seem to be presented objectively here now do they? (Or in any of those articles for that matter. Not a single one has all the facts.)

Don't tell me you just saw this lady on the view presenting her side of things, decided to believe all of it, then come post this?
A hit and run could be running into a parked car and not reporting it. (Most likely what was the case for his two prior convictions)

And damn, when I was four, I knew it was a pretty fucking stupid idea to go "bolting into a busy street".
This is a poor black woman we're talking about here. I'm going to make some baseless sourceless assumptions myself and say she was a irresponsible crackhead more concerned with getting a fix then the safety of her children.

Maybe the government could have done something about this? I mean a lady with 3 kids walking in the street at night alone? Why wasn't there a government program created to help guide mother's with too many children across busy city streets? Where's the compassion? Jesus!

I know that's what I'm sayin. You know, I actually remember Obama promising 3 AM cross walks with workers in all inner cities by 2011. I BELIEVED IN CHANGE!!!!

don't paint this woman like some sort of saint.

she JAYWALKED, right down the middle of a busy street.

she could've walked to the end of the street, and crossed at a crosswalk when it was appropriate. the lazy bitch didn't want to walk b/c she's LAZY, bitch a dead kid vs. a little walk??? give me a break....

she was lazy and sloppy and this shit happened. she deserved to go to jail in my opinion.
