true, true, but if you have your own trucks and wheels. i bet the downhill boards those guys are ridin are the same if not pricier. used to be so into longboarding, only could do a couple slides though. theres just know where to ride where i live, out in the boonies with potholes every 5 feet. one day.

So I've been longboarding for awhile now. Up here in AK there are steeeeep hills everywhere which is just awesome. Last year I purchases a Freebord and let me tell you, it is sooooo much harder than longboarding!
Everyone says just imagine your snowboarding, but it's not really all that similar.
Ended up falling really bad and have not touched the thing since. Shame too cuz it was damn expensive.

i used to skateboard back in the day.. one time we went to this ski resort that was closed by my house and skated down this paved bit of it, it was super crazy and i hate speed woobles, lol...
i was just in a skate shop the other day and was looking at long boards... was thinking of picking one up as it looks more my speed then killing myself trying to do the latest switch stance 360 flip down the love gap is..
what's the deal with these boards? what makes them any different than say a long board that i'd get from a local skate shop? excuse my ignorance, but we never had this stuff when i was into it, trying to learn something here..

Well for one, there are things that kinda of secure your feet.
Also there are 6 wheels on this board. As you can see in the pic the board actually is so that the two center wheels touch the ground when the board is perfectly straight and level and the 4 outer wheels are suspended in air. Those 2 center wheels swivel and enable the rider the carve. So if your heel side carving, the outside wheels on your right will not be toughing the ground.
Brilliant idea, but the problem is that those swivel wheels make it really easy to catch and edge. On snow that's usually no biggie, but on pavement...well it hurts. ALOT!
