Christian That Now Smokes Weed.

Hi guys,

I just joined here and saw this section for spirituality and thought I would post.

As many people know, a lot of Christians are against cannabis. They say, it is a gateway drug, it is harmful to your body and it against God's law. I fell into this belief for a long time.

It wasn't until recently that I began to question if weed was infact a sin. It started when I watched the documentary called "The Union", it was very easy to follow and I thought was very well paced for a documentary. It gave the facts quick and questioned both sides of the controversy.

What struck me the hardest was finding out that cannabis smoke alone is very safe and is in all honesty a natural drug. For a long time I have been using sleep aids that have side effects, but finding out that weed has almost no side effects has made me want to change.

I dont smoke it often, mostly when I cant sleep the odd night or when friends come over that also smoke weed. I believe in moderation, but that goes with a lot of other things as well.

Christians will also say that it is highly addictive, yet alcohol and caffeine are rated more addictive than cannabis. I myself don't feel the need every day to smoke it, so I guess that theory goes out the window.

What I find funny is Christians that are overweight or have to drink coffee every morning look down on people that smoke weed once and awhile, yet what is more addictive and doing more damage to your body?

Anyways, that is just how I feel and what I believe. I have read the entire bible as well and I am well versed in it. I can always study it more and I do not claim to have all the answers, but I think I have a firm grasp on what it says.

For what it is worth, I believe that using cannabis is not a sin and if it is not ruining your life, I see no problems with using it.

Also, from what I have been reading on the forums, most people here are very relaxed, helpful and friendly. I am looking forward to being a part of this community. Thanks for reading.

From what i've read on this forum, everyone is down to earth.

Seems like the only side effect from weed... Down to earthness..

Haven't read much in this section then eh? :fire: Seriously though, as long as you don't act like an asshole, others won't.

Just for your own reference, there is nothing in the bible against cannabis, and it's quite probable that Jesus and his apostles used it(the middle east is where cannabis comes from and has been cultivated for thousands of years). The modern Christian opposition to cannabis is due to the large conservative movement within the church.

It's right in the bible that God put weed here for us-Don't let people twist the word to their suit their own agendas.

as an atheist, i'd just go out and say, religious LEADERS who try to speak for the millions of followers have made enemies of harmless substances in the past to further their agendas and dogmatic structure/psychology, religions thrive of this kinda stuff (entire subcultures and groups spring up over whether or not certain foods are kosher- leading to new people in power over the sects/tribes and religious teachings), and hell, in the bible it said moses's god spoke through a "Burning bush" so he was probably toking up. personally i dont even find religion correlative to cannabis, so keep toking and keep DOUBTING and questioning, you never know what other kinds of BS your Pastors and priests might have been telling you.

i dont remember weed being on the list of sins, so i think youre good to go! haha

before the 1930s, mj was used as a casual medicine. it was just another herb that helps with certain conditions. the negative stigma has only really been around for like 70 years

I was thinking about this a bit the other day and it seems like a large number of christians have a hard time seperating mans law with sin. This is a good example. Must be a sin if it's illegal right?

Haha, yeah just like how slavery was legal. I guess people didnt think that was a sin either!

Hey Plume, the primary reason it is not allowed (main stream "Christianity") is it violates the law of the land as stated in the Bible. As a Christian i am to follow the law placed over me, however if the law of a government contradicts law of the Lord and or attempts to change what the Lord commands it then goes into the realm of violating the Lords Law which in turn supersedes man made government, prime example would be the US's stance against MJ.

There a lot of things that are okay to partake in as long as its done in moderation and not abused according to the bible.

Sorry not trying taking this thing into a debate, just wanted to give you some insight from a Christian who partakes in MJ. :)

I think you're mostly safe from people taking an anti-marijuana stance, but you never know around these parts :-P

Hey cool to know that I am not alone. You should watch the movie called "The Union", it convinced me lol. I did my research after watching the movie as well and pretty much everything documented in the movie was true.

I am also a part of a Christian Forums group and debate it strongly there, mostly because I have taken sleeping pills in the past that do cause bodily damage and have side effects, yet weed does the same thing and causes no damage.

I have also lost a little faith in the law since the Casey Anthony case. People go to jail because they have a couple plants growing in their place, yet she kills her daughter and walks free.

There just wasn't enough evidence! I know it sucks, most of us believe her to be guilty. I only know her from the media sensation. The law is alright, the ivestigators did a shit job!

How many inocent ppl would be in jail if we procecuted without evidence? I think nearly everyone who goes to court would be in jail inocent or not. Im not religious but if I were I'd proly feel she will end up in hell. I'd also feel at odds with myself because without evidence that would simply be passing judgment?

You are right, there wasn't any hard evidence to show it, just a lot of very obvious signs that she did it.

I wrote that post after watching this video, i guess it stirred me up a bit lol.
