First Grow.... practiced on bag seed! Have a couple of question..

Things have been going pretty good. Started with 10 seeds that my husband saved from his Meds. Got rid of 4 plants first week into flower because they were hermaphrodites. Knew something was up when all 10 plants had female pre-flowers.

Anyway have a couple of questions. Hoping someone can help...
I am 28 days into flower 12/12, two 600w Hps, water or feed every other day. ph water to 6.5. So my question is the nutes change the ph do i need to ph up to get it back to 6.5? Can't seem to find the answer in the books I've been reading. Also how do they look? Bud size about right?? Anyone have a idea what strain they look like?

So I have another question.... I ordered some fem seeds and I'm going to start them soon. I bought a little 150w hps ballast to start my seeding under. Then i'll move them to the other room that has the 2 600w hps. Is 150w going to be to much for seedlings?

Plants love light!!!! Jus make sure ur temps are right u should be fine......as far as nutes u do need to get ph up & down......im new to grow also...ive been doin some readin on a few things plus help from the great folks at riu. I got fox farm nutes and they have a feeding schedule that comes with it......im doin wht its tellin me to and everything looks fine...keepup the good work! Wish u fine blooming.

A 150 hps is a waste of electricity for seedlings and it's the wrong spectrum. The 3000k spectrum will make them stretch which for an indoor plant is a bad thing. It would be much cheaper to purchase a cheap T5 system with 6500k bulbs to start your seedlings out. You can get those within 3 to 5 inches. A daylight spectrum decreases the distance between inter-nodes which increases fruiting/flowering sites on a plant. Shorter plants also get more light over the entire plant. Essentially you get the same number of fruiting sites in a shorter bushier plant.

Nutes can have a DRASTIC effect on your pH, that is why you add the nutes first and then measure/adjust pH.

When I use my veg nutes, I have to adjust the pH DOWN to 6.5.

When I use the bloom food from the same company, I have to adjust the pH UP to 6.5.

I 've been so good about watching my waters ph. Then i hit me yesterday and i realized that my nutes change the ph . So i asked my husband about it he said i didn't need to ph after i add my nutes. But i thought he was wrong.. But maybe my comment to him that i thought i could grow better then him. Hasn't help me. Now we have a challenge going. I've read two books, researched online and now I'm hooked.. He'll never get his room back. lol. Well i hope i haven't hurt the girls to bad with my lack of experience....

Huge n00b question here! Not to highjack your thread careCO. How do you adjust the pH up and down? I am assuming with an additional nutrient? I have read also online that lime and sulfur will work accordingly but am not sure that would apply to marijuana?

General Hydroponics sells a solution called.. Ph down which is an acid and a ph up that is what I've been using. and apparently not using when i should be...

Well, check out your "true" pH now that you know to measure after adding nutes, and see how far off you are from 6.5. Then SLOWLY adjust the pH back to 6.5 in no more than .3-.4 at a time. So if your pH is actually say 5.5, bring it to 5.8 then 6.1 on the next watering, and finally 6.5... this way you don't shock the hell out of your plant.
