anyone having problem with roots organic soil?

i used it for one grow and got the same results lots of flying insects that really didnt seem to hurt anything but were annoying and hard to get the ph dow to 6 from the 7.2 that it was when i got it. I use straight cocho fiber now with some perlite and a little dolomite lime then ferts as required and no problems.
It seems every year both Roots and FF soils get worse. Bought a few bags of each earlier in the year to help me decide which to go with for the season and neither one was super impressive.
The Roots had very little nitrogen and the clones struggled until I fed them a heavy tea. PH levels, which isn't a huge concern to me as long as it's consistent, varied greatly from bag to bag. I did have some white flies in my room and I hadn't really thought about the possibility of it being from the soil but that would make sense.
The FFOF is what I usually grow in and I will be using it again this year simply because the plants did much better without any feeding needed in the early stages. PH was a consisten 6.5. The complaint I have, since I have been using this soil for years, is the amount of wood chips and sticks in all the bags this year. Not to mention a few small rocks and lots of big black chunks of unmixed "forest humus". Still, the plants seem to love it and I haven't noticed any bugs or the like since I ditched the Roots so I guess I can't complain terribly.

I am a roots user and use 1-2 bags a month. I have noticed the gnats but it has been growing the dankest weed I have ever grown this year....of course Im only in my second year growing...

from what ive noticed, roots has bugs. end of story. but it doesnt mean i wouldnt use it. I had a discussion with the owner of my local shop and he told me flat out most of the bags they get shipped have bugs. But now he gives me a 45% discount, so I dont complain...Its great in a vegetable garden haha.
Now I like to stick with Fox farm O/F for my girls. I havent had a problem with their soil. Plus its slightly hotter and my girls love it.....just my experience though

The adults are just an anoyance, the larve however do feed off roots taking nutes\ moisture from the plant.The negative effects are minimal, but if you are an every little bit counts guy like me, you'll want to get rid of them...omg just had a revelation HAHAHA i use roots organics and i have gnats!! couldnt figure out where they came from........ so what do the gnats do? do they hurt the plants? TY im a newb TY

I think the problem isn't so much the brand, but cross contamination during shipping and at the stores themselves. I'm just speculating though and I've tried several brands of soil, from FoxFarm, Roots, Kellogg, Supersoil, and several generic brands. I've never got pests from the soil (knock on wood). I'm also really picky about the condition of the bags. I pretend like it helps but I really don't know. lol. I've just heard a couple of times from different people that it's cross contamination during shipping.
