i don't qualify for private insuance. preexisting condition. plus individual plans suck, the copays are high and the coinsurance is high. there is no point in having insurance if you're paying 50% + 30 dollars at each visit. My doctor will see me for $80 flat. it's cheaper to just pay out of pocket.

my point was that he is sick. although i dont know what he has, im somewhat sure they have a treatment for it, if its not able to be cured. so instead of not being able to afford insurance, living in misery because he cant get better, and still isnt able to work, wouldnt it be nice if the government helped him out with some cheap(or free) medical treatment? you know damn well he doesnt deserve to suffer. should he continue to suffer simply because he cant afford health insurance?

then, after the recovery, he is able to work and provide again.
lol if you read my posts, I fully support universal healthcare. but he doesnt. and idk if his problems are fixable. years of wear and tear have ruined his body. alcohol, drugs, being fat, playing hella sports, getting head injuries from hurting himself sleep walking, a bad siatica, a hernia he's had for ten years, bad knees and ankles from playing football, ripped thigh muscle from slipping and falling, no fluid in his joints... at times I get scared I wont live to see my dad become an old man. Sleep apnea, and a bunch of other shit have just ravaged his body.

when i was unemployed, i made 500 a week.

40k a year is peanuts. i couldn't even pay my rent on that. i definitely couldn't afford another few 100 a month for health insurance. hopefully if you're making 40k you're at least getting some benefits through work.
really? you can't pay rent with nearly $3,500 a month?

sounds like someone may be living above their means. no need to compete with the jones'.

i understand. i have the same problem. thats why i would like it if the government kicked private companies out of the health industry. profit will ALWAYS trump service when it comes to big companies like that.
why do you think they started the whole preexisting condition thing? so you pay every month, then when you get injured, they drop you and thats the end of it. i think thats bullshit

if that were the case, i would have a house that i can't afford and i'd be refinancing it over and over again to get the money to pay the bills LOL.

actualy, my fiance ppays the rent, it's not 3500 but 40k a year isn't 3500 a month, is it? after taxes? pplus i have other bills. rental is one + electric + gas + water + trash. it adds up!!

my mom makes anywhere from 36,000 to 40,000 a year... and while my stepdad was unemployed we struggled. In CA, rent is super high. We have the cheapest rent on the block for about 1,000 bucks a month. And its a shitty duplex. To live in a nice house in CA, a good chunk of that 3,500 would go to rent, easily

i am very lucky, i have insurance through a big corporation with my fiance. i have a great plan and i am very fortunate. i fight for the uninsured/underinsured because i was unemployed a few years ago. i had nothing and i was very sick. i struggled so much. i had to do clinical trials to get seen by doctors and get medicine, tests, lol, sounds crazy, huh? it's true.

ok sorry. i was going off what you said your dad said i guess. id say some of those are fixable. maybe help at least... if they could take away anything on that list, wouldnt that be better than where he is now? it is a tricky situation though when you got just a bunch of wear n tear

yeah but at the same time, if you participate, you can help find treatments and cures. i still do trials when i can. i did one recently, it sucked but if it finds answers, it's worth it.

if they could fix his legs, and his head, he would be able to work. but he cant sit for very long, or stand, has to lay down alot, and due to his head injury, gets almost narcaleptic at times

does he collect SSDI? i think that would be the next step.

i agree, CA is super expensive. i don't know if i want to settle here for the long term, i'd prefer a house somewhere cheap to a one bedroom apartment here.

he doesnt collect that, because he isnt disabled... he has medical problems, but they arent bad enough to be labled disabilities. I like living in CA, but thats only cause I live at home and dont pay rent. But I cant imagine living anywhere else...
