ok. so ive heard that t5 lights are better than MH for veg for various reasons: lumens, power effeciency, cheaper, etc. but HPS is best for flowering... can someone give me a detailed and elaborate explanation of lighting of all types, then which ones to use for veg and flowering stages? thanks

get a T5 HO fixture for veg/clone/prop and a hps for flowering

hps lighting area to watt ratio

150/175 - 2' x 2' area
250 - 4' x 4' area
400 - 6' x 6' area
600 - 8' x 8' area
1000 - 10' x 10' area

mh or T5 HO Flouro - blueish-white spectrum of sun for vegging

hps or led - orange/yellow/red spectrum of the sun for flowering

why would you say LED's all the way ???? i grow with 10,000 watts C02 and from a 3" clone in 2 weeks there goin into flower @ 16 to 18" height ????? ) would love to see a led compare

true that muffy.. so all i need for a 4x4 is a 250HPS? i have a 1000HPS, overkill on lighting?.
and with the T5 HO are they cooler to operate with because this MH is fucking turning my room into a damn steam room lol. im trying crazy shit like using bowls of ice to help the temp lol. so yea do they run cooler? and im not trying to get the best buds and highest yeild and stupid fukn bragging rights. just some damn smoke yeilds would be nice tho and decent potency.
so will these lights give me some good yeilds and potency?
dont forget.. are they cooler lights to use? (temp wise)

T5 run cooler and are more efficient but your plants will not grow as fast as they would under the same wattage HID bulb. In a 4x4 area i would run a 600 watter, thats what i did in my tent grow. HID bulbs are incredibly hot, temp is always an issue with indoor grows. i'd recomend a 600 watt HPS digital ballast so that you can run MH with a conversion bulb and HPS off of it. then just get some good ventilation or some a/c. if your doing a smaller scale grow no sense in spending money and multiple ballasts and hoods.

i like t5 not much heat at all i think cfl makes more ........but u wont get the yield of hps not even close ......the ice cubes arent that crazy ........

How much does the T5 HO's slow down the veg compared to a 600w mh?
If i decide to stick with the MH and HPS will a 1000hps/mh digital ballast operate with 600w bulbs without damaging equipment?
and on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the highest. compare the energy consumption of 600w mh & hps. and T5 HO please.
and where would be a good place to get a good a/c because the cheapest one at wally world is $100 and at the moment thats a lil high..
Also if i decide to go with the T5 HO then would lamps going at 45degree angles on the sides and one directly on top be a good setup or the side lights going vertically instead of at a slant?

you cannot run a 600w bulb in a 1000watt ballast. if a 1000w ballast is what you have then use it and get yourself an a/c off of craigslist. veg growth is a lot slower under t5 than mh. the power consupmtion with be made up by the mass amounts of more bud you will get.

MASS amounts of more bud ehh? sorry bout all the questions. this is my first grow so yea lol.
i thought that the bud production comes from the lighting chosen for flowering, hps. and the mh just brings more areas for bud growth???

ya i got the grow bible second edition by greg green.. good book. but not a lot of details you know.

wrong book look at what i have in quotes, that is the title of the real bible. i have green's book and it is shit, its very generic and basic and not a very well thought out book at all imo. get the real bible.

Same here, i read it before my first grow and was like "well that was a waste of time" the good bible is written by jorge cervantes. its has a ton of USEFUL information, makes a good read, and its also nice to have around as a reference guide. The solutions to most peoples problems on this site can typically be found in the bible quickly and easily.
