When you have private insurance they do basically the same sort of thing, telling you what surgeries and shit you can get and how much out of pocket it'll cost, etc. How is it any different? My mouth was hurting like a son of a bitch a while back and the dentist told me the pain was caused by my wisdom teeth. He recomended I get them pulled but told me my insurance doesn't cover the operation. My pain killers and whatnot were covered or my visits were covered or some bullshit but not the actual operation... Nearly $500 out of pocket. How is this any different than what the government would be doing? I think you're just buying into the "it's my choice!" mantra when in reality, whether it's private or public the basic plan is called "basic" for a reason... They're going to turn you down for something (or at the very least charge you out of pocket, which is what "death panels" would ultimately have you doing).
lol...
If you were someone with health insurance and you knew people did this and it cost you even MORE money, would you really be okay with it? Don't pretend you think it's even remotely moral to take advantage of the system like that... You know just as well as I do that that shouldn't be happening and because we aren't going to turn people down when they show up to the E-room dieing(or whatever) the only logical step to take would be to make sure everyone has health insurance so you know everyone is paying into the system.
Just to be clear, I'm not hating on you for doing what you gotta do but what do you think happens when people are doing this on a grand scale(15% of the population has no health insurance)?
the difference is, you could have bought better insurance.
lets say we go govt HC. and the death panels (exactly what krugman said and meant cuz he said it more than once) deny a poor person coverage for certain procedures. the rich person still gets the coverage cuz he pays for it.
my question is, isnt that the same as being denied coverage?
a few things you arent considering. 1 the number of people without coverage (15% your number) how many just dont buy the insurance although they can afford it?
2 most poor people are fat, unhealthy, and dont lead healthy lifestyles. you willing to pay for them?
3 you ever talk to the irs about a tax problem? now, think of that conversation and imagine you are really sick, trying to get your coverage or bill straightened out.
4 go to any emergency room in a poor area. i recently was in for chest pains. thought i was having a heart attack. there was one "recipient" of medicaid (welfare insurance) who was pissed off because the doctor wouldnt GIVE her tylenol for her 12 year old child that had a "cough". after repeatedly telling her where she could purchase tylenol, the woman finally stomped out. another kid was in because he hurt his foot playing basketball. he walked in, barely limping, not crying and laughing with his buddies and obviously was not in any "emergency" situation. while this is anectdotal, it is happening everywhere and is exactly what is driving up the cost for everyone else.
mame, one thing your charts will never point out is that when you give someone something for free, they will forever want more free stuff. then when you cant get it for free anymore, they will riot in the street. greece
sorry i am ranting.....but there is so much bullshit being dished out on this medical stuff its pathetic.
i heard earlier today that the AMA is reversing its decision to back obamacare. thanks for telling us 2 FUCKING YEARS TOO LATE.
