beanz, when u ScrOG guys make your cuttings ( the ones that go straight into 12/12) do you , or can you take it off a flowering plant ??
Taking cuttings from a flowering plant is a last resort kinda thing. No one really
plans to take cutting from a flowering plant. The reasons you do it are mostly for emergency reason. Like you tasted a sample bud and you relalize that it's the best weed you've ever smoked, and it's not even finished. Problem is, it was a freebie and you only have the one seed.
Or you plant has serious bug, nutrient, ph and whetever issues and it's gonna die. No doubt about it. You can take cuttings and start all over
the problem is that the plant has to revert back to the veg state BEFORE it even grows roots.
For instance, my last grow, the one that got jacked, I took clones of the plants in veg and they all rooted within 14 days. It took me 5 tries to get it but the all rooted very easily once I got my method down. They all rooted except for one plant's cuttings; The Barney's Farm Pineapple Chunk (the seeds I place the order for in the first place).
I was like whatever. I have 10 clones of all the other plants. Who cares.
After I put them into flower, the Pineapple Chunk really stood out from the rest. It had an awesome bud formation, Incredible vigor, it was a great plant. So I panicked and took a few cuttings of it like 3-4 weeks into flower.
After 14 days, they hadn't rooted and were barely showing primordial roots bumps. At 20 days, they had sprouted like 3/4 inch roots, then they just inexplicably stopped growing.
You can do it cause I 've seen people have success with my own eyes, but only if you want to preserve a dying line of genetics of you just have a great plant you don't wanna lose. It's just harder (you have to baby them more) and it take a lot longer, but can be worth it if the strain is worth keeping.
We do have to use clones though. You can imagine how hard it would be to pull a male out of the screen after it's been tied and weaved all to hell. Using clones also ensures a more even canopy as all the plants will be the same. I'd go as far to say as cloning is essential when it come to scrogging.
If your thinking about doing it, know that your veg times will be longer. That is the one downside of ScrOG, but can be easily remedied by adding more plants (as I did). It takes time for your plant to grow into the whole screen, but a pure ScrOG is done with one plant.
Hope this helps.
