Map Quest

Anyone ever used mapquest to find grow spots? I've found a few really nice openings in wooded areas to try out this year. It seems like a good way to scout locally.

Just went and scouted one, it's basically a half acre of land they used to dump pieces of trees when they built this subdivision about 200 yards in the woods, with a grown over road that looks like it hasn't been used in years. Score.

I will in the future, this spot is about as perfect as possible for a G.Grow. Literally a 5 minute walk in every direction to a clearing that has 3 foot high weeds and berry bushes, I'm gonna throw a dozen plants, mostly reg freebies from attitude up, it's got really good soil, might throw a spike or 2 in and just hope for a couple Z's, possible a pound or 2. If it gets popped I really won't mind much since it's seeds I'm not planning on growing. I'll check out google though thanks for the tip.

The land I found on mapquest was damn near perfect. The other piece of land I was looking at I looked at on google maps and it was cleared to run powerlines. It's DEEP into the woods except for the powerlines. I might split my crop and hedge my bets. Throw some more freebies that I won't grow down along that path. Granted I only grow for personal use and if I end up with like 4 pounds I have no idea wtf I'm gonna do with it. The reg seeds I'm using are G13 and if I choose a 2nd spot it'll be some TH and World of Seeds fems.

the only thing that you've to worry about with any land for power lines is that they get regular up keeping.. there is always someone there mowing the grass, checking out shit and stuff like that..
not saying you couldn't pull it off, but just wanted to bring this to your attention before your plants got pulled..

Well I checked it out too and it looked really overgrown. It's still a lil early so I dunno, I as thinking of throwing some indica heavy ones a lil deeper, put the sativa heavy in the other opening I found.

i use bing birds eye view. it gets you down real close.

as for the power lines, around here they go and clear them every 3 or 4 years i believe. theyve already done it in one spot that i planted a couple years back, so if its real overgrown, i wouldnt mess with it. if it looks like they cleared this year or last, id probably give it a go

About 10 years ago they ran underground lines through another direction so I don't even know if it's still in use. I used google earth to find it and mapquest to see how much it had changed. There's 9-12 foot ~20 foot diameter evergreens growing in the middle. I'm still planning on planting sort of in the woods, the sunlight direction is absolutely perfect, so even if they mowed chances are they wouldn't see it. My first site is the one I'm more worried about being discovered but there's a pretty thick layer of blackberries between where I planned on planting and the open field. And I put in an order with cannabisseeds dispite bad reviews just to get a good yielding sativa (I know their genes are shit but I've never done an outdoor grow so won't worry if I mess up, 19 bucks inc. shipping can't realy beat that). The only thing I'm worried about is summer heat killing the plants, so I'm gonna have them in a semi-shaded spot. +rep to all of you for the suggestions and thanks. I'd start a journal but frankly I'm planning on using MG spikes and staying far away til I can cut a limb to sex. They throw out an ounce a piece and I'm a happy camper.

The area I live in there's a lot better places farther away and safer. Not too many people around here, I'm talking about 3 miles of cut forest for the lines. I will, however, be on the look out for someone else's stash. Most of the people here are retired or farmers, the land is a huge climb to get up so I ruled out retired and the farmers hell they can throw it in most anywhere. Either way like I said it's $19 worth of cheap seeds and some bag seed so not terribly worried. Only reason I'm doing an outdoor grow is to try some flavors I can't fit in my growbox. :D

I highly doubt anyone has a grow going up there. I live in a very rural area. I never meant to imply that I'd seen a grow, just would find it funny to stumble across someone else's. I only grow for personal anyway, I'd never rip someone else's stash, but it would greatly improve my confidence in the area. My main worry would be that they wouldn't be watching and have a male plant that'd ruin my grow. So far I'm actualy impressed with the germ rate on the cannabisseeds.com seeds. All the ones I got were fairly big and in 4 days 2/3 have 1/2 inch tap roots and most have at least cracked. I wouldn't order from there again until I get the results and find out if they grew out what they said they were butI know there's a gallon of haterade dumped on that site.

Funny thing happened, they hadn't cleared it in a few years, and they did a few weeks ago, but they missed most of my plants. I had them all where they'd be shaded and a few got mowed over, about half.

eh it was seeds I really didn't care much for and just kinda wanted to dump. They'll probably do ok, they got a bit of a late start but that's life, at least I know next year I can probably put up some fem'd seeds and not worry about them getting popped lol.
