okay, i dont want this to seem newbie or anything, but i just bought some Bubblegum weed, and i looked it up online, and people say that it tastes like bubblegum and stuff, but i didnt notice that at all,,, now the guy i bought it from didn't say anything about that, so im wondering if maybe it's a different strain? basically my question is, have you guys smoked a weed that tasted like something in particular, as it was advertised to taste like? thanks alot !

every strain can have multiple phenotypes that don't express the flavor they were named after.

for example, bubblegum may only have one or two phenotypes out of all the seeeds that have an actual bubble gum flavor.

cannabis can have virtually every flavor from fruity to spicey skunky. it's a wonderful world indeed.

and just to elaborate on phenotypes: say you have 1 strain, 100 seeds, you are guaranteed probably 10 major phenotypes with 90 minor ones with more recessive traits.

no prob this should be general knowledge so people don't throw out a strain because it didn't seem to be bubblegum just because they didn't get the bubble gum pheno....

so many strains have probably been lost because of people interpretting an ENTIRE strain based on ONE phenotype.

I've had Strawberry cough taste just like strawberries, and weed. I've had Pineapple chunk that tastes like pineapple, and weed. I've had bubblegum that tastes like bubblegum, ...and weed.
One time, ONE TIME! I had some Indica Rose that tastes like roses through an ice water bong. If it wasn't ice watered it tasted like roses & weed...

As poplars mentioned there is a lot of different possibilties in the seeds. You may have one that tastes as advertised but not another from the same parents. I have also read that smell and taste can be hard to stabilize because it doesn't follow the mendelian principles other traits follow. A good way to get thhose flavors would be trying clones if you can. Generally a clone will be a superior phenotype of a given strain, or even if it isn't relly the strain bubblegum, would more likely have that taste/scent if it's called bubblegum and your results will be uniform because it is part of the original parent it came from.

I have had some strains that have that bubblegum smell/taste. It wasn't very strong but it is there. I would say it reminds me of putting the cheap pink bubblegum in your mouth and not chewing it. There are alsostrins tht have a more intense aroma, one I smoked tasted like the striped animal gum, I can't remember what that's called. I have also had orange, grapefruit, lemon, blueberry, diesel, skunky, fruit loops, bannana, cotton candy and other flavored herb.

if I really wanted to keep a particular flavor, I would keep a clone and back cross it over and over probably 10 generations until it exposes that phenotype a /lot/ more than it normally would be.

I was beginning to think I was the only one who's heard of Lavender X3 It didn't look like much, but it was a creeper 0_o

Most types of diesel taste like shit to me, but once or twice the high was so unbelievably fantastic I really didn't care that my mouth had been... defiled.

The first time I had lemon haze, it smelled more lemony than tasted lemony. I got it gain of another dealer and no shit, it tasted of lemon. Real lemon zest, not artificial lemon flavoring The mango haze I got in Amsterdam didnt taste too mangoey, but the smell was authentic. After spending 6 weeks picking 40 Julie mango fruits a day, and handling about 10 other cultivars, I can tell you it was spot-on mango. It's so weird 0_o But I suppose all scent and taste are is a specifically balanced cocktail of chemicals and if you replicate it elsewhere (like making synthetic fruit flavorings for the food industry), they're still identical by all intents and purposes. Ack, it's alot to get your head around...

Whoops, off-topic.

I love weed for weed's sake. As much as I think too many crazy strains being produced and named, or methods of flavoring weed are a bit gimmicky, it can be a nice thing.

I go through a lot of various strains and do notice quite a difference sometimes in flavors. Lemon skunk was a particularly nice flavor...lemony as lemon could be....blueberry was a nice fruity skunk...but lowryder 2 has been my fav of all for it's very different taste...hard to explain....but exotic....of course I vape, so flavors are a bit more noticeable than blazing.
