Hi guys.
First time postin in the CFL forum. Have numerous CFL grows under my belt, and love usin em. Currently in the middle of my first HID grow, and love that as well, but my roots will always be with the CFLs. Seeing as how I did upgrade to HID lights though, I had a shit ton of extra cfls and equipment sitting around that I decided to lend to a good friend of mine who is also a fellow medical patient. It will be his first grow so I will be helping him along the way.
We got it all set up and rollin. Personally I am a soil man myself, but he decided he wanted to go the hydro route. Which is cool, gives me something else to keep me interested...suppose a few cycles of the same dirt is starting to bore me, but maybe I don't have the balls to switch it up - if it aint broke don't fix it kinda thing.
SO. Onto the garden. It's a kind of out of the ordinary DWC system. We had an idea (as stated, I'm a soil guy) that instead of having individual buckets, we'd connect them and then put a spiggot on the end of the tubing and could just drain it all at once... kinda doesn't really work though but we're improvising. Have to like tilt each bucket to drain the res's and there is still an inch or so of h2o left over in each bucket. Figure since we're continually topping off with fresh water and do full res changes once a week....it shouldn't cause a problem. Any thoughts?
Started out on 4/26 with 2 Blue Widow clones, and 2 Anastasia clones. The BW's exploded! Loved the system. The Anastasias straight croaked. They hated it. No root development. Just looked pitiful. We waited and waited, and finally today decided fuck it. We yanked em, but they're not dead, so we stuck them in soil (FFOF) to see if they like that better. As replacements, we acquired 2 UK Cheese clones from the same dispensary. I showed them pics and they hooked us up w/ one for free and we had to pay cost for the other (8 dollars). Alright I guess.
Have a total of 455 watts in the closet. Broken down into 4 - 40 watts, 10 - 23 watts, 1 - 65 watt. Using Ionic nutrients. Got one air pump goin to airstones in each bucket. Settin ph at about 5.9(ish) Don't know much about EC and PPM and all that jazz. Will probably have to do some research, but the BW's are fuckin ragin fine now so not to worried. One thing I will say, is for 2 and a half weeks I'm way fuckin impressed with the BW's root balls. Psh! I guess thats hydro for ya. They are gunna get out of hand I have a feeling.
Made a door for the closet out of poly. Using a 6 in eco-plus muffin fan for extraction. No carbon filter as of now. We shall see. Homeboy needs to get a real fan and filter I say or it's gunna get stinky. Obv budget is a factor though. One osc. tower fan inside. And yeah. Fuckin huge post to start this thread out but ykno, felt like I should get it all out there. Feel free to post any questions or comments and I would love for any of you to stop by my other thread in my sig. Buncha seedlings just started. Should get fun soon! Be Easy! - PLP
