Thought I would share the recipe I use for my "Super Soil" that is used in the raised beds, on top of the already amended soil.
1 Bag Fox Farms Ocean Forest
1 bag Kellogs Patio Mix ($4.97 a bag at Lowes)
1 large bag of Earthworm Castings
Quarter cup FF bat Guano 0-5-0
Cup Dolamite lime
Quarter cup of powered Alaskan Fish emulsion concentrate
Quarter cup of Dr. Earths Fish bone meal
3-4 shovel fulls of perlite
1 teaspoon humic acid
3-4 tablespoons of Mycorrhizae
2 table spoons of Azomite
Quarter cup Bone meal
Quarter cup Blood Meal
Couple shovel fulls of Chicken manure Compost
Couple shovel fulls of Steer manure compost
5 gallon bucket of composted horse manure
5 gallon bucket of forest humus
2-5 gallon buckets of existing soil in garden.
1 cup of dried molasses
I put all this in an old cast iron bath tub and mix thoroughly. Then place in 33 gallon rubber maid trash cans with hole on the bottom, add water and let cook for a few weeks. I add water every few days, dump them back into the tub, mix a bit, and back into the trash cans. I'm trying to create an active"micro-beastie" herd in those trash cans buckets.
I ended up using 12 bags of FF O.F., 12 bags of earthworm castings,12 bags Kelloggs Patio Plus soil, ......you can do the math on the rest. This is time consuming, and labor intensive, but it all pays back big in the end.
Hope this helps

Recipe for success, haha, definately on your way to some monsters this year. I mean, if you're gonna do something, you might as well do it right, yeah? I'm a fan of the Patio+ as well, pretty decent ingredients in it...How many batches do you have to mix up in the tub before you're done? I just broke down, and spread out the tarp yesterday...Got in with the shovel and then raked it all back out. There is definately something to be said for the benifits of working outside in the Spring, lightens the heart a bit...Anywho, I'll be lurking and posting throughout the season, I'm sure, because I am a fan of the monster plants! I just wish I was working with the same amount of direct sunlight you are! It's not wrong to base my entire criteria for moving to a new house on how successful of an outdoor grow it will produce, is it? ;)

Busy week, turning dirt, mushroom compost and last years Trout from the freezer was added to the beds early last week, getting things ready for the BIG SHOW!
4-girls went into the cage last Friday, 2-SR-71 Purple Kush, and 2- Mad Purps.
The weekend was all about getting the area between the cage and greenhouse ready. About 8 hours was needed to dig holes, amend more soil, build cages so no rodents get my girls, re-mix soils in the new larger holes, add Trout, fill holes, and add lots of water. Those girls will go in on Wednesday, or Thursday.
Here are a few photos of the 9 MONSTERS in their new home.

Its killer that you use trout in the beds. When I was young we would hit the local park pond to catch bluegill to put at the bottom of the holes with our tomatoes and the things went off. If I didn't have a beagle I would give it a shot in my smart pots but the dogs nose is just way too good and Im sure he would dig them out.

i see you use cut up fish. do you just add it to the bottom of the soil? i always thought it had to be composted first other wise the plant cant use any thing from the fish. can you elaborate on why your using.

if it works i might use some xtra trout i have made into a smooth and then placed in

My 09-10 indoor grow i put a chunk of Trout in the pots on half the plants. Within a month you can tell just by looking at the plants vigor which plants had the Trout in them. They were greener, bigger, and just had that sparkle that the others didn't have. After seeing these results, my 2010 outdoor grow I would go to the Fish Market and get 5 gallon buckets full of fish scraps and put it into the garden area. The end result.... I had a plant produced over 1600 grams, another produced over 1200 grams, and a couple others that were in the 1000 gram range. What's that saying...."the proof is in the pudding"! I believe that nothing needs to be done to the fish prior to using in the garden, I just put the trout a couple of inches under the root ball when I transplanted. I think as the Trout decomposes it releases gases, nutrients, and other goodies the plant and the micro-beastie herd feast off of.
I've had GREAT results using fish, and will do this EVERY grow.
Good Luck-
