@poplars, fdd has been a puppet for a while, I don't think he's a bad guy because he went on a nit-picking infraction/banning rampage, that was expected.

I think that the insults that are given infractions or banned for need to be looked at closer, shouldn't be as easy as pressing a button or two and then someone is gone. The mods need to actually read into the thread, see who the troll is and get rid of them. Even if more "mature" members are bashing the troll or whoever it is that is flaming people then let it be, it's called territory, if someone came onto your property talking shit to you would you politely ask him to leave, no, I doubt it, and if the cops showed up would they kick out the owner or the trespasser.

While I realize this is a public forum it is still the principle that by getting rid of the members that have been around for a while and are actually looked up to by those of us that follow the rules you are kicking out the owner. They remember when this forum was peaceful and (virtually) troll free, so why should they get banned or get infractions if they are defending RIU and their favorite forum? You are dealing with weed smokers, unfortunately fighting is part of our game. Yes, bashing does happen to more than just trolls, but I think mods should really look into the situations before giving out infractions or bans and need to stop getting rid of their loyal "customers" instead of backing up the trolls that just wanted to get them in trouble in the first place.

IMO trolls are the snitches of the internet and should be treated as so.

if you don;t like the rules, pm rollitup and tell him so... You can always just quit logging in as well...

I like the rule for the simple fact it prevents a lot of flame wars. Sure some will still get started, but as you found out, it is dealt with....

i agree,, i got 2 infractions for slagging a fkn troll.. and he his still fkn doing it..

I'm serious though stoners aren't that ridiculous, if we were allowed to insult eachother freely it would NOT get out of hand... I guarantee you the trolls would expose themselves quickly, or leave slowly after they realize they have no game anymore.

and sure there will be a bitch match here and there... but what the fuck will really happen? most things end within 5 or 6 posts, maybe a few rash things are said, but then smoke up and forget about it.

this banning spree turns a small moment of frustration and stretches it out over days... how the fuck can that be good for anyone?

yeah the no insults really prevents flame wars, by allowing trolls to nit pick at all the people who may blow up (and they get enough blow ups to justify the fun.)

so hey no matter what you say if you are supporting the no insults rule you are supporting trolls.

Insulting members that are backing up their fellow RIU friends and insulting trolls is way different. Trolls deserve it, guys willing to back each other up don't deserve it, isn't that what a COMMUNITY is about? Supporting each other and making sure those "bad eggs" don't ruin things? The internet is getting to be more and more like "real life" since technology is taking over the world, and if people can defend themselves in person when someone insults them, how come we can't do that on here?

How about just banning anyone that fits the criteria of a troll... rollitup could come up with his own criteria for the mods to follow, not that difficult...

Poplars, I understand that fighting back is logical and such... but what if the trolls don't go away and stay in your thread?

You've got no rule against insults now, so a 80 page thread could be nothing but a bunch of people going back and forth, calling each other names and just being generally stupid... with no repercussions.
